ABOUT ACEC ARIZONA
The American Council of Engineering Companies of Arizona (ACEC AZ) is the business voice of Arizona’s engineers and land surveyors in private practice. ACEC AZ is dedicated to promoting the business interests of engineering companies by providing legislative advocacy and business services for its members.
Our member firms employ over 5,500 Arizonans and range in size from small, sole proprietor firms to large locally- based firms and branch offices of national ?rms. ACEC Arizona is affiliated with the national ACEC organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C., which currently supports over 6,000 member firms employing more than 600,000 engineers, architects, land surveyors, planners, and other specialists. ACEC and its member firms design more than $100 billion per year in capital projects and advocates for legislation promoting the business of engineering member firms with annual PAC contributions more than $1,000,000.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, management, communications, or related field.
Proven experience in nonprofit/membership association management.
Working knowledge of the legislative process, advocacy, and/or direct involvement in the operation of state government.
Ability to develop strong relationships with the national ACEC organization and to build partnerships with related organizations at the state level (e.g. BOTR, WTS, FOT, ASHE, ASCE, FOCEE, APWA, etc.).
Commitment to working with the Board of Directors to achieve the goals of the ACEC AZ Strategic Plan.
Strong oral and written communication, negotiation, organization, delegation, and time management skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in financial management and familiarity with QuickBooks.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Eligibility to be registered as a lobbyist to lead ACEC AZ advocacy efforts.
Proficiency in the use of social media and other engagement tools.
Understanding of private and public infrastructure industries.
Prior experience supporting or managing events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
There are three priorities of ACEC AZ: industry advocacy, member engagement, and operations. The executive director will have overall responsibility for advancing these priorities and will regularly communicate and report to the Chair and Board of Directors to confirm direction and areas needing assistance. It is anticipated that the executive director will utilize and manage ACEC AZ staff and outside consultants in delivering these three priorities. The exact makeup of the staff and outside consultants will be based on the specific qualifications and input of the executive director. The outside consultants may include lobbying, legal, accounting, information technology, and event planning.
The main objectives of three priorities are briefly described below. This listing is not intended to be all inclusive but to provide a general understanding of the responsibilities.
Priority 1: Advocacy | Promote Interests of ACEC AZ Membership and Brand of ACEC AZ
Enhance and maintain an effective government affairs program to represent the interests of ACEC AZ membership to the Arizona Legislature. Develop and maintain strong relationships with government and public service clients to support mutually beneficial partnerships.
Monitor and provide timely reporting on legislation introduced in the Arizona State Legislature. Upon recommendation from the Board of Directors, collaborate with contract lobbyist to support legislative action and initiatives to improve the business of the engineering industry.
Represent ACEC AZ with ACEC National and build relationships with Executive Directors from other ACEC Member Organizations (States).
Promote both the federal and state PAC’s contributions and engagement to meet annual goals.
Maintain and develop value added relationships with other associations and industry partners.
Maintain effective internal and external public relations using a variety of communication platforms.
Promote STEM education to increase the student population studying engineering and entering the industry.
Priority 2: Membership | Manage membership and provide services that bring value to membership
Develop, implement, and monitor an effective program of membership development and membership services that provides value, engagement, and communication.
Promote and lead the delivery of the Roads and Streets Conference and Engineering Excellence and Legacy Awards.
Organize and conduct membership meetings including Principal Roundtables, liaison meetings, agency partnering meetings, and trainings.
Promote and lead the delivery of the Leadership in Engineering Administration Program (LEAP).
Priority 3: Operations | Oversee the daily operations of ACEC AZ
Ensure that the strategic plan, goals, and objectives adopted by the Board are implemented and provide regular monitoring and reporting to the Board.
Ensure the fiscal integrity and sound financial management of ACEC AZ and its Political Action Committees (PACs) and oversee the development and management of appropriate budgetary and financial controls and procedures with the assistance of the Treasurer and Board of Directors.
Ensure proper bookkeeping and all requisite tax returns are timely filed.
Hire, train, and supervise employees as authorized by the Board of Directors.
File and maintain Articles of Incorporation, governance documents, and other corporate records as required by law.
