The Content Creator/Editor is responsible for supporting the Society with the creation, writing, editing, and proofreading of marketing and communication efforts that further the mission and objectives of ECS.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Develop an in-depth knowledge of Society programs, initiatives, and goals. Collaborate with Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications and Society program areas to execute marketing and communication initiatives for various stakeholders and audiences. 2. Create, write, edit and/or proofread engaging and informative content from Society program areas for dissemination through ECS marketing and communications outlets, including but not limited to: ECS website, Interface, ECS News, brochures, interviews, meeting signage, PowerPoint presentations, Annual Report, emails, social posts, press releases, articles, and blogs. Ability to translate complex topics into clear and concise language. 3. Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency of all ECS marketing and communications content. 4. Act as the staff authority on the Society’s Style Guide, overseeing its maintenance and updates. Cultivate a deep understanding of the Society's brand voice to ensure consistency across all content. 5. Assist in the coordination of outsourcing content contributions related to Society programs. 6. Provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders, based on best practices and data, to drive positive marketing and communications outcomes and results. 7. Participate in cross-departmental meetings; provide support to promote/advance the Society’s goals and objectives. 8. Provide support at ECS meetings (about 5-7 days, 2-4 times per year), including but not limited to: registration desk support, customer service support, and onsite content creation and editing. 9. Work with various external vendors/consultants for the purpose of troubleshooting, testing software updates, and staying abreast of new offerings. 10. Utilize software such as: NetForum (for association management), Informz (for email management), Smartsheet (for workflow management), WordPress (for content management) as well as other software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) to manage reports, data, and documents. 11. Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to help facilitate successful marketing and communications workflows. 12. Present recommendations to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications to create and/or enhance content for the ECS community. 13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications.
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS 1. Internal: Reports to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications. Has regular contact with other staff members in performance of his/her duties. 2. External: Works with external vendors/consultants and has regular contact with the ECS community.
PREREQUISITES FOR THE JOB 1. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field OR five+ years content creation/editing experience in scientific and/or nonprofit industries. Prior association experience preferred. 2. Excellent command of the English language with a keen eye for detail. 3. Working knowledge of web design, email and social media best practices, content marketing, and audience segmentation. 4. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. 5. Solid analytical and problem-solving skills. 6. Ability to multitask and perform under frequent deadline pressures with multiple projects and competing priorities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The majority of work is performed in an office setting; hybrid/flexible work options are available. Full-time employees work 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. (The office in Pennington, NJ.) 2. Fast paced environment with the need to juggle multiple demands and timetables. 3. Must be available to work nights and weekends to meet heavy work demands and frequent deadlines.
