ABOUT US
We are a national trade association dedicated to empowering our members and advancing the industries we serve. Guided by our core values—growth mindset, member focus, agility, collaboration, and candor—we support our members through advocacy, education, and industry collaboration.
We’re looking for a driven and strategic State Energy Policy Manager to help shape energy policies and advance the interests of the hearth, outdoor living, and barbecue industries. If you’re passionate about advocacy, legislative strategy, and making a meaningful impact, this role is your opportunity to shine.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The State Energy Policy Manager will lead efforts to develop and monitor state and local legislative and regulatory policies that affect our members. This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage in strategic advocacy on pressing issues such as electrification, licensing, and gas restrictions, making a meaningful impact on the hearth, patio, and barbecue industries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the primary advocate for the industry at the state and city levels on legislative, regulatory, and code-related matters impacting the hearth, patio, and barbecue industries.
Stay well-informed about the evolving landscape of state and local regulations by actively monitoring and analyzing policies, particularly those related to electrification and licensing, to assess their potential impact on the industries.
Assist in strategic planning to address legislative and regulatory challenges, particularly those involving gas restrictions and electrification initiatives.
Build and maintain relationships with legislators, regulators, council members, and code development bodies, providing testimony as needed.
Collaborate with HPBA staff, Affiliate staff, members, and state advocates to effectively communicate HPBA's positions.
Participate in coalitions and partnerships, fostering consensus and identifying shared goals.
Support the Gas Hearth Appliance Section by scheduling meetings, coordinating agendas, and assisting section leaders.
Draft advocacy materials, including all state and local energy policy issue letters, group emails, Board reports, and content for HPBA communications (e.g., Hot News).
Use advocacy management software to compose and distribute legislative action alert emails.
WHY YOU WILL LOVE THIS ROLE
Purpose-Driven Work: Contribute to a team that values integrity, service, and conscious leadership. You'll directly impact the industry by advocating for essential legislative and regulatory policies, particularly around electrification and gas restrictions.
Dynamic & Collaborative Culture: You’ll engage with influential policymakers, work collaboratively with a passionate team, and help drive meaningful change at the state and local levels.
Growth & Development: We believe in constant growth and improvement. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to expand your thinking and skills, take on new challenges, and contribute to an industry that values collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth.
If you are a highly organized, adaptable, and growth-oriented State Energy Policy Manager who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment, we want to hear from you. This role offers the opportunity to influence policy, advocate for our industry, and work alongside passionate professionals. Some travel required, up to two weeks per year.
