Director of Membership and Chapter Relations

The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) is a leading international trade association representing 3,500 signatory contracting firms across the globe.  SMACNA is looking for a Director of Membership and Chapter Relations to join its Membership Development and Innovation team in its Chantilly, VA headquarters office.  The Director of Membership and Chapter Relations is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to grow, engage, and retain members while strengthening relationships with local and state chapters of SMACNA. This role involves overseeing membership programs, providing support to chapter leaders, and ensuring alignment with SMACNA’s mission and strategic goals.

The ideal candidate will have experience in: 

• Developing and executing strategies to increase membership recruitment, retention, and engagement.
• Overseeing the development of membership marketing campaigns, materials, and outreach programs
• Developing and implementing training, resources, and best practices for chapter leadership.
• Organizing and conducting leadership training, workshops, and webinars for chapter leaders.
• Promoting chapter growth and engagement through mentorship and best practice sharing.
• Planning and executing membership engagement events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
• Working with chapters to support local and regional events, ensuring alignment with national goals.
• Using data analytics to improve membership retention and engagement strategies.
• Prepare reports for leadership on membership trends, challenges, and opportunities.

We are looking for a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, non-profit management or a related field, five+ years of experience in membership management, chapter relations or association leadership.  Strong leadership, communication and relationship-building skills along with experience with CRM/membership databases/association software (NetForum, Netsuite, Microsoft 365, Monday.com are desired.  May telecommute up to two days per week when not traveling.
