Reports to: Sr. Director, Professional Development Classification: Exempt Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000 Position Summary
The International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the largest association for economic development practitioners, is seeking a Learning and Development Associate to join its Professional Development team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Professional Development, this role will lead the implementation of a new Learning Management System (LMS), manage training courses, research best practices, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver high-quality educational experiences. Additionally, the Learning and Development Associate will support the development of new courses and explore diverse learning formats. The ideal candidate will have experience in corporate or non-profit learning environments, with a focus on creating engaging programs that drive innovation in professional development. Experience within a membership association is preferred. This position plays a vital role in shaping the future of economic development and supporting IEDC members’ professional growth through a portfolio that includes certification programs, specialized training, continuing education, and online learning initiatives.
Areas of Responsibility Training Course Portfolio • Manage the annual calendar to ensure effective, well-timed delivery of courses, certificate programs, and other learning opportunities. • Manage the recruitment, support, and evaluation of course instructors. • Determine ways to improve engagement and content delivery in existing courses. • Manage in-person and/or virtual training course logistics. • Establish and train IEDC staff on in-person and/or virtual course duties. • Prioritize customer service and clear communications with registrants to ensure retention. • Identify and implement new offerings to expand portfolio, and in turn, add value to the economic development field and to IEDC. • Analyze course data and metrics to identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and develop data-driven recommendations for optimizing our educational portfolio and generating additional value. Learning Management System • Lead the implementation of the Learning Management System (LMS), working with the Senior Director of Professional Development to establish program pathways. • Coordinates with the Senior Director of IT and the IT team to support LMS implementation and other technology needs. • Migrate existing course materials and offerings to the new system. • Design and maintain LMS portals to ensure optimal user experience. • Apply course design methodologies, which may include SCORM, xAPI, and cmi5. • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and update training materials and integrate the LMS with existing systems. • Create reports and dashboards for stakeholders. • Implement user feedback to enhance platform functionality. • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance. • Partner with Marketing/Communications to leverage system data for targeted outreach strategies. • Provides training to instructors on enhancing engagement in virtual and on-demand learning environments.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Minimum of 5 years of experience in training course management or design. Bachelor’s degree in related field required, Masters degree preferred. • Experience within a membership association or nonprofit organization is strongly preferred. • Excellent customer service skills • Strong attention to detail • Organizational skills are a must • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time, independently and with supervision • Familiarity with Learning Management System (LMS) software, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with supporting the launch of an LMS preferred. • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. • A collaborative and innovative mindset. • Commitment to the mission and values of IEDC.
Job Location This position is eligible for remote work within the United States. Candidates will be required to travel, as required, for meetings, conferences, or team events. Candidates within commuting distance of Washington, DC are considered local and have the option to work from IEDC’s offices. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
