The Director of Finance and Administration will play a critical role in partnering with the Chief Operating Officer in financial decision making and administrative support. This is a tremendous opportunity for a finance and administrative director to maximize and strengthen the internal capacity of a well-respected, high-impact organization. The Director of Finance and Administration is responsible for managing the nonprofit organization’s financial operations, overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, and supporting the COO in ensuring operational efficiency. This role ensures compliance with financial regulations, effective financial reporting, and sound budgeting practices while optimizing administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Budget Management:
Responsible for the accuracy of bookkeeping and accounting activities, including AP/AR, payroll, and general ledger entries. accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations, including GAAP and IRS requirements.
Prepare accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements for review by the COO and other stakeholders.
Support the preparation for annual audits and ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations.
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
Help track financial performance, including monitoring expenses, revenue, and cash flow.
Collaborate with the COO to design and implement financial strategies and operational plans to support organizational growth and sustainability.
Administration & Operations:
Manage the organization’s administrative systems, including office operations, facilities management, and vendor relations.
Oversee human resources processes, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and benefits administration.
Ensure compliance with labor laws, nonprofit regulations, and internal policies.
Work closely with the COO to refine organizational processes, improve efficiency, and ensure operational goals are met.
Work with the COO to develop and implement operational policies and ensure that staff adheres to them.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA, MBA, or other relevant certifications are preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a nonprofit organization or similar mission-driven sector.
Proven experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and audit preparation.
Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards and compliance, and experience working with nonprofit financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, bill.com).
Technologically savvy, with experience overseeing information technology staff or vendors
Experience effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management and the Board.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong financial acumen and understanding of nonprofit accounting and reporting.
High-level proficiency with financial analysis and reporting tools.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with an attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Understanding of human resources management and general office administration.
