The Director of Regulatory Affairs and Economics will lead the organization’s regulatory policy, economic analysis, and advocacy efforts. This individual will monitor, analyze, and influence regulatory and economic developments affecting the industry, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. The Director will serve as a key advisor on regulatory matters, represent the organization in external forums, and collaborate with internal teams to advance strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Affairs
Monitor and analyze federal and state regulatory developments affecting the industry.
Develop and implement strategies to influence regulatory policies in alignment with organizational priorities.
Prepare detailed comment letters, position papers, and regulatory filings to advocate for industry interests.
Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies, policymakers, and stakeholders, fostering constructive relationships.
Coordinate regulatory responses and initiatives with coalition partners and other advocacy groups.
Economic Analysis
Conduct economic research and analysis to assess the impact of regulatory changes, market trends, and policy proposals on the industry.
Develop data-driven reports and presentations to support advocacy efforts and inform stakeholders.
Provide thought leadership on industry regulations and economics, identifying opportunities to enhance market efficiency and competitiveness.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with members, government relations, legal teams, and external consultants to align regulatory and economic initiatives.
Represent the organization at conferences, hearings, and industry forums.
Build coalitions and partnerships to strengthen the organization's voice on regulatory and economic matters.
Leadership and Strategy
Serve as a key member of the team, contributing to strategic planning and organizational goals.
Manage regulatory and economic projects, ensuring timely and effective execution.
Mentor and guide junior staff or consultants as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in regulatory affairs, economics, or related roles, preferably within the industry or a trade association.
Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, policy processes, and economic principles.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly.
Proven ability to build relationships with regulatory agencies, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities.
Preferred Skills
Experience working in a member-driven or advocacy-focused organization.
Familiarity with transportation regulations.
Proficiency in data analysis tools.
Experience working with or at the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, or other federal regulatory agencies is a plus.

Work Environment
General office conditions. This is a hybrid work environment requiring at least three days in the office each week. Days and times are determined in consultation with the VP of Government Affairs and are consistent with TIA policy.

This role may require occasional travel, including weekend commitments, to successfully fulfill job responsibilities.
