SUMMARY
The Technical Product Owner will oversee and manage the technology products used by various business units within the company. As part of the IT team, this role will work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, help define the product, and ensure that the technical solutions delivered align with business goals.
The Technical Product Owner for Events collaborates with internal clients and stakeholders to develop and implement various event technology systems, aiming to provide high-quality, technology-driven digital and live event experiences. This includes overseeing the NAVC's marquee event, VMX, which attracts over 20,000 attendees and other high-profile projects. This role involves managing technical projects, integrating systems, and administering and supporting event registration and digital platforms.
This position collaborates closely with the Events team to establish and implement technical processes across various platforms. It involves managing in-person and virtual events, webinars, mobile apps, and digital production. Additionally, this role requires cooperation with different departments within NAVC to create well-designed experiences and content for our customers.
The Technology team collaborates with the Events team to deliver the systems that power NAVC's high-profile international in-person and virtual events. This position is also responsible for supporting the Events, Programs, Exhibits, & Sponsorship sales teams in planning successful meetings, incentives, and event programs by managing the technology tools through the entire lifecycle, including items such as venue sourcing, registration building, travel integration, survey design, and post-event reporting. You will design and implement processes optimized for efficiency, quality, and high customer service for internal and external stakeholders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as the main point of contact for the assigned technology products, ensuring they meet business unit needs and are aligned with the company’s overall IT strategy.
Work closely with business unit stakeholders to gather and understand product requirements.
Translate these needs into clear, actionable product backlogs and prioritize them based on business value and impact.
Maintain a well-organized product backlog that aligns with business and technical priorities.
Collaborate with system coordinators and IT operations to ensure technical feasibility and alignment of product features with IT architecture and infrastructure.
Act as the liaison between business units and the IT team, ensuring that stakeholder expectations are managed and product changes are communicated effectively.
Ensure that new product features or updates are adequately tested and meet the necessary quality standards before deployment.
Collaborate with IT support to address any technical issues that arise.
Lead product release planning and ensure changes are appropriately managed and communicated to business units and IT teams.
Monitor the impact of changes and ensure that they result in measurable improvements.
Proactively identify opportunities to improve existing products or implement new features that enhance business processes or user experiences.
Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies that could benefit the business.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date product documentation, including product features, processes, and change logs. Ensure this information is easily accessible to stakeholders.
General Support
Manage event solutions information database and serve as subject matter expert for the team.
Recognizes the need for documentation and takes ownership in actively creating/improving documents.
Organize demos of the registration website and digital event platform functionality.
Assist the wider Technology team with other tech initiatives.
Manage and train new and existing users (internal and external) on Event Systems.
Systems Administration/Configuration
Consults with internal clients on registration website builds and digital tool configuration and actively participates in scoping custom events with a digital/tech focus.
Support the development of event registration websites and mobile event apps in Event Management Software.
Define and supervise strategies for integrations between systems, optimizing business processes and data flow.
Configure account and user permission settings to support the organization’s event programs.
Maintain Event Systems account configurations and user settings.
Conduct quality testing (UAT) on event websites for accuracy and complete functionality throughout the registration and travel process.
Event Support
Understand and assist with general event technology tasks, including reporting and analytics.
Create event and customer technology experiences that are easy for attendees to navigate and engage.
Provide technical support & other assistance at events, as required.
Quickly identify when to change processes onsite in escalation situations.
Collect requirements, organize delivery, and manage multiple technology-enabled areas at the live events, including registration, General Spaces, and Exhibit hall, each requiring a significant amount of hardware and software processes. This includes working with various vendors to deliver these solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of experience as a Technical Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, or a similar role, focusing on technology products.
Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working with Agile teams.
Experience managing a product backlog, defining user stories, and prioritizing features based on business needs.
Technical acumen and the ability to collaborate effectively with development and IT teams.
Experience with digital event platforms and registration tools like eShow, Cvent, Swapcard, and Swoogo.v
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with product management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.
Knowledge of IT infrastructure, enterprise software, and integration best practices.
Familiarity with cloud-based technologies, APIs, and data-driven applications.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
This position may require travel to execute or attend events.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
