The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is seeking an experienced government affairs professional to join our team to be the subject matter expert on both federal and state regulations impacting dental hygiene. This position reports to the Director of Education, Research, and Advocacy.
ADHA is a non-profit membership organization for registered dental hygienists, that represents the needs of registered dental hygienists, dental hygiene students and the greater oral health care community in the United States through leadership, education, advocacy, and the value of belonging to a professional organization.

Job Summary:The Senior Manager of Advocacy serves as a liaison to members and provides resource support on political activities, legislative initiatives, strategy, and planning for legislation, regulatory change, and related healthcare concerns.
Interviews: Will be conducted virtually
Position Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid or remote work available upon request)
Salary: $85,000 per year, dependent on qualifications
Responsibilities:
Monitor, research, and analyze state legislative and regulatory trends that impact dental hygiene. Track pending legislation and mitigate as needed.
Lead in the development and analysis of information for advocacy documents, presentations, testimony, etc.
Work with ADHA state leaders to advance state policy initiatives that complement ADHA strategic plan.
Answer inquiries from ADHA state associations, the media, dental hygienists, and others.
Develop advocacy materials such as issue summaries, briefs, advocacy tools, testimony, and development of strategy and preparation of state lobby days to advance the dental hygiene profession.
Draft updates for the association’s social media and publications.
Manage councils and committees as assigned by the Division Director.
Plan and develop the legislative workshop activities related to ADHA annual conference including attendance.
Advise the Division Director on advocacy issues and materials pertinent to the division and ADHA.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in political science or related field required.
5+ legislative experience at the state or federal level.
5+ years of experience or relevant work experience at a trade association, nonprofit, government agency, legislative office, or with a public affairs/lobbying firm.
Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with government officials.
Experience with Voter Voice or similar grassroots software programs desired.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge and in-depth understanding of the federal and state legislative and regulatory process and congressional committee structure preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in giving public presentations.
Excellent people/networking skills; natural political acumen.
Ability to exercise good judgment, sound reasoning skills and discretion in making independent decisions commensurate with responsibilities.
Ability to gather and interpret information quickly.
Strong organizational, problem-solving and critical/strategic thinking skills.
