The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) has an new opening for a Coordinator, Grants and Development.
The Coordinator, Grants and Development researches funding sources and grants for which AZA may be eligible. With the goal of securing new grants and expanding the AZA donor base, the role will split between the activities of grant sourcing, researching, and proposal writing, while also assisting in other development activities. This position will research new grant opportunities, write grant proposals, and oversee the grant process, including follow-up with funders and compliance tracking in the CRM. This role will also assist with the acquisition of new sponsors and donors with the goal of increasing revenue to AZA programs.
The ideal candidate will have previous fundraising and grant-writing experience, and have a strong passion for the Association mission and vision. Preferred candidate is a deadline-driven team player with excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills.
This position will work closely with all AZA staff across departments and reside on the Member Services team reporting to the Director, Integrated Marketing and Development. This position is based in Silver Spring, Maryland and is not a fully-remote position.
In collaboration with the Director, Integrated Marketing and Development, this position is responsible for:
Grant Writer Responsibilities (70%):
Research new grant funding opportunities.
Develop and follow proposal-writing procedures and standards.
Manage submission timeline for grants and follow-up reports.
Writes, revises, and edits drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
Gathers information and documentation for grant proposals, coordinate submissions and collections, and identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals.
Maintain records and documentation in CRM database and on a shared development drive.
Maintains knowledge of the organization's programs and helps to ensure consistency and accuracy in organizational records and compliance.
Development Responsibilities (30%):
Coordinates fundraising collateral and case statements.
Works cross departmentally with conservation and communication teams to help build community engagement and program/brand awareness.
Supports fundraising initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills And Other Characteristics
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
Demonstrated skills in the use of internet applications, databases, and CRM tools (Excel and NetForum preferred) to gather and analyze data.

Minimum Training And Experience
Two-year degree or more.
2-3 years direct experience or equivalent working in grant writing or development areas. Non-profit, Association background preferred.
