Manager of Volunteer Engagement and Chapter Relations

The American Statistical Association, a non-profit professional society located in Old Town Alexandria, has an immediate opening for an experienced, knowledgeable Manager of Volunteer Engagement and Chapter Relations for the American Statistical Association (ASA). The manager of Volunteer Engagement and Chapter Relations is responsible for managing and coordinating the committee appointment process for key committees, ensuring alignment with the ASA’s strategic plan. This role oversees the organization’s awards process and supports the development and activities of regional chapters. The manager will serve as a critical liaison between volunteers, committee members, and chapter leaders to help drive the mission of the organization and ensure its long-term success. This is mainly a remote position with occasional in-office requirements.
Major Responsibilities include:
Committee Coordination: The ASA has over 50 committees, the members of which are ASA members who are appointed by ASA leadership and who serve on these committees as unpaid volunteers. The Manager will
Manage the appointment process for volunteer committee members, ensuring representation aligns with organizational goals and diversity objectives.
Collaborate with Council chairs to develop committee charters, objectives, and timelines for achieving strategic initiatives.
Monitor and track committee progress to ensure alignment with the nonprofit's strategic plan.
Awards Process Management:
Coordinate the annual awards process, from nominations to the presentation of awards.
Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to evaluate and recognize outstanding contributions in alignment with the organization's values and mission
Manage the communication and marketing of award programs to members and external audiences.
Oversee logistical planning for award ceremonies and presentations.
Chapter Relations:
Act as the primary point of contact for regional chapters, providing guidance and support to help chapters grow and thrive.
Facilitate communication between the association and regional chapters to ensure alignment of goals and programs.
Support chapter leadership in organizing local events, programs, and initiatives that further the ASA’s mission.
Coordinate the distribution of resources and tools for chapters to use in their local outreach and advocacy efforts.
Elections
Set key dates and deadlines, including candidate nomination period, campaign period, voting period, and results announcement.
Create election instructions, including how to vote and deadlines.
Address any technical issues or questions from voters.
Report the results to the Executive Director and coordinate the announcement of results
General Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the communications and membership teams to promote volunteer and chapter opportunities.
Maintain accurate records of volunteer assignments, chapter activities, and award nominations in the nonprofit’s database.
Collaborate with the executive team to identify and resolve any challenges related to volunteer or chapter activities.
Prepare reports and updates for the board of directors and leadership team on the status of volunteer engagement, awards, and chapter relations.
Stay current on nonprofit management best practices and recommend innovative ways to enhance volunteer and chapter participation.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration, or related fields, is preferred. Substantial work experience may, at ASA’s discretion, be considered a substitute for a degree.
Prefer at least three years of experience in volunteer management, membership services, or chapter relations, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work with diverse stakeholders.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Experience with event planning and coordination is a plus.
Knowledge of customer relations management (CRM) or volunteer management software is a plus.
Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers, committee members, and chapter leaders.
This is mainly a remote position with occasional in-office requirements.
