The Private Directors Association® (PDA) is the premier professional nonprofit organization for private company governance. Our purpose is to enable and enhance the value, growth, and resilience of privately held companies through effective governance. Created in 2014, we serve more than 3,500 members, with 20+ Chapters located throughout the United States.
PDA is seeking to hire a full-time Director of Sponsorship & Strategic Alliances to join our team. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the key responsibilities for the position are defined below.
Key Responsibilities:
Develops and implements a comprehensive acquisition and retention strategy and operational plan for each of the following: sponsors, exhibitors, alliances, and business partnerships
Identifies prospects, assesses their needs, and determines how one or more of PDA’s business development opportunities (sponsorship, exhibiting, alliances, or partnerships) may be of value to them
Builds meaningful mutually-beneficial professional relationships with national sponsors, exhibitors, alliances, and business partners
Onboards new sponsors, exhibitors, alliances, and partners, and continues to strengthen relationships with current sponsors, exhibitors, alliance, and partners by creating a meaningful experience for them
Handles administrative elements, including reviewing online sign-up forms, issuing invoices (if not automated from online process), and tracking payments electronically
Based on associated benefits by level or relationship, obtains logos; creates sponsor, exhibitor, alliance, or business partner profiles including website links; communicates with respective staff, volunteers, and Chapters relative to new sponsors, exhibitors, alliances or business partners as well as their ongoing status periodically; and, inputs/tracks complimentary memberships, which may be an associated benefit
Drafts copy and concepts, working with communications and marketing team on messaging and materials, including prospectus
Contributes to PDA publications and social media posts in areas over which this position has responsibility
Creates business presentations and professional correspondence
Organizes meetings and serves as staff liaison to the Sponsorship Council, Sponsorship Steering Committee, University & Family Business Centers Committee, and any other committee or task force, as requested
Creates and maintains master lists of sponsors, exhibitors, alliances, and business partners, ensuring the execution of respective benefits for each (varies based on tier/level and terms)
Collaborates with member volunteer advisors on select National accounts as well as Chapter Sponsorship Chairs, including responding to inquiries & requests for assistance from Chapters & Chapters-in-formation relative to sponsorship, exhibiting, or related activities
Executes all benefits for Chapter & National Sponsors (varies based on sponsor level)
Creates reports related to sponsorship, exhibitors, alliances, and business partnerships to evaluate effectiveness and inform future goals
Monitors the competitive landscape and suggests potential sponsors, exhibitors, alliances, and business partners that support PDA’s strategic objectives
Works to achieve goals in alignment with PDA’s strategic plan
Other job-related duties, as assigned
Experience & Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree and minimum of two years relevant work experience, preferably with an association or nonprofit organization serving members and Component Chapters
Successful background working with sponsors, exhibitors, and/or alliance or business partners
Proficiency in standard office applications (Office 365 environment, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, AI, etc.) and ability to adapt to changing technologies
Competency working with databases, AMS, or CRM
Able to work in a professional remote virtual environment, with reliable Internet capabilities
Skills & Abilities:
Highly organized, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Takes initiative and can coordinate projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Reliable and dependable, with ability to work efficiently with a high level of autonomy and meet deadlines
Comfortable working within a “soft” sales environment, possessing effective negotiation skills
Excellent oral and written skills
Strong mathematical aptitude to manage budget and finances appropriately
Ability to collaborate in an energetic, positive way to find solutions to challenges facing businesses to achieve meaningful results
Possesses top-notch customer service skills
Demonstrates a high level of professionalism and competency serving private companies, executives, and other business professionals
Models PDA’s values and contributes to a positive work culture
Enjoys being part of team, which works together virtually to create great experiences for our members, sponsors, exhibitors, alliances, and business partners
Ability to travel, if requested, on a limited basis
