CLIENT ASSOCIATION: Cervical Spine Research Society, CSRS POSITION REPORTS TO: Executive Director POSITION(S) THAT REPORT TO YOU: None EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEE STATUS: Exempt (Minimum of 37.5 hours/week)
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS) is a client managed by Executive Director, Inc. (EDI). CSRS has a staff of five full-time employees that work specifically on CSRS education, research, membership, meetings, communications, marketing, and governance. CSRS members are orthopedic spine surgeons and neurosurgeons that are world leaders in cervical spine surgery. Staff plan and implement an in-person annual meeting each year that draws approximately 600 spine surgeons from around the world to share scientific data and connect with their colleagues. In addition, CSRS gives out over $250,000 each year in research funding for cervical spine research.
The Research Manager reports to the Executive Director and is the primary liaison to physician-run volunteer committees such as research, publications, registry, and development. The Research Manager provides administrative support to these volunteer committees. This role requires a high level of responsibility while exercising discretion and sound, independent judgment in performing assigned tasks.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (Minimum of 37.5 hours/week):
Manage the research grant process.
Responsible for promotion & oversight of research grant application and awarding process grant categories including: resident/fellow, seed starter, 21st Century, and spinal cord injury grants
Direct liaison with the research chairs and the grant sub-committee chairs and committees
Responsible for managing grants timeline & communicating deadlines with members and database
Manage the research grant database with outsourced vendor
Create and manage the marketing campaign for promotion of grants process
Organize calls with sub-committees to review and select research grants and review extension requests
Work with grant recipients to collect data as needed
Manage the financial aspect of the grants regarding distributing funds, and collecting any unused funds
Manage the process for members to conduct research studies with CSRS members
Collaboration with Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) regarding grant funding & communications
Manage the publications committee
Coordinate and schedule meetings of the publications committee approximately 3-4 times per year
Manage the process for CSRS to develop and produce two special journal issues per year
Manage the relationship with Clinical Spine Surgery, the official Journal of the Cervical Spine Research Society and the Journal editor-in-chief
Promote journal submissions by CSRS members
Work with publisher staff to monitor journal metrics and produce reports to the board twice per year
Communicate with the Journal editor to promote CSRS
Cervical Spine Registry
Direct liaison with the CSRS Registry co-chairs to coordinate meetings approximately 2-3 times per year
Manage the process to review contracts with sites through committee, CSRS attorney and CSRS Executive Director
Other duties as assigned.
BUSINESS NEEDS & TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Some early morning, evening and weekend work may be required to meet client needs. Travel anticipated to be approximately two weeks per year.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Able to meet deadlines and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must have an acute attention to detail. Computer proficiency, outstanding organizational and communication skills are essential. Previous association management experience and/or familiarity with nonprofit leadership a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (lifting, packaging, etc.):
Minimal lifting required.
*This position is located in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as an all-staff-in-office day) are a requirement of the role.
