The National Emergency Number Association's Chief Executive Officer provides leadership for all aspects of the Association’s operations, with an emphasis on long-term goals, growth, profit, staff and program area deliverables, and sound fiscal management. This position represents the Association before a variety of federal agencies and businesses both domestic and international. This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization and staff. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a management or leadership role, strong managerial and financial skills, and experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and Congress.

Position Responsibilities:
Manage and direct the organization as it works to achieve its primary goals and objectives, as identified in NENA’s mission, vision, and strategic plan documents.
Work with the Board of Directors, NENA staff and other executive-level subject matter experts to establish short-term objectives and long-range goals, as well as operational plans and policies.
Attract, acquire, retain, and develop a motivated, high-performing, cohesive staff.
Embody and promote a workplace culture that values productive and open communication, and cooperation.
Review the financial results of all operations, comparing them with the Association’s objectives and responding appropriately to address unsatisfactory performance and results.
Attend and conduct Board of Directors meetings and act as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors.
Execute all contracts and commitments authorized by the Association.
Oversee the development of the annual budget of the Association.
Monitor the budget throughout the year. Ensure that all funds, physical assets and other property of the Association are appropriately safeguarded and administered. Approve all budget expenditures.
Provide training and resources to the Board of Directors about its roles, responsibilities, and duties.
Oversee the Association’s financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound funding for operations and sustainability of the Association.
Network with experts who can have an impact on Association revenues and issues related to 9-1-1 commercial interests.
Network with colleagues in and outside of the 9-1-1 and public safety ecosystem (domestically and internationally) to identify best practices for addressing Association business and policy issues.
Present regular reports on the status of the Association’s operations to the Board of Directors and to staff.
Ensure the Association’s compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and standards.
Identify potential new partnerships and other business development opportunities.
Perform other related duties to benefit the mission and operations of the Association.
Monitor industry and markets to identify long-range issues for future planning.
Fulfill other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the President and Board of Directors.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provide leadership, direct supervision and support to NENA.
Ensure NENA staff accountability by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, and fostering a culture of responsibility, professionalism and continuous improvement.
Hold direct reports accountable for meeting organizational goals, adhering to policies and maintaining high standards in their perspective areas.
Minimum of 10 years of management/leadership experience.
Experience in related positions with similar nonprofit trade associations strongly preferred.
Work experience in a state or federal regulatory agency, Congress or other relevant organizations is desirable.
Excellent managerial and financial skills and the ability to take leadership of any diverse business operations area, including financial, technical, human resources, member relations and outreach to members, sponsors and government officials.
Superlative communication skills, particularly regarding the ability to communicate as a leader, both internally and externally.
Thorough understanding of management and financial practices in all areas and phases of nonprofit association business operations.
Public and media relations skills.
