NAMA is seeking a Manager, Government Affairs to manage and implement government affairs priorities, goals, and objectives. The Manager works closely with the Vice President, External Affairs, to execute strategic initiatives and policy positions adopted by the NAMA Board.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Legislative Monitoring and Analysis:
Track and analyze federal legislative and regulatory developments affecting the convenience services industry.
Develop subject matter expertise in assigned policy areas.
Prepare clear, insightful communications for NAMA members on legislative issues and their potential impact.
Advocacy and Representation:
Execute strategic initiatives to advance NAMA’s advocacy priorities.
Represent NAMA in meetings with Congress, regulatory agencies, industry coalitions, and other stakeholders.
Engage with federal agencies on regulatory matters affecting the convenience services industry.
Play a key role in planning and executing NAMA’s annual Fly-In.
Member Support and Communication:
Provide guidance and resources to NAMA members on legislative and regulatory matters.
Develop and distribute educational materials, including webinars, newsletters, and policy alerts, to keep members informed.
Develop and implement grassroots advocacy campaigns to activate NAMA members on key legislative issues.
Policy Development:
Assist in shaping NAMA’s policy positions and contribute to policy papers, advocacy toolkits, and other materials.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Work cross-functionally with internal teams to align advocacy efforts with organizational goals.
Partner with external stakeholders to advance NAMA’s legislative agenda.
Technical Requirements – Education, Areas of Knowledge and Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Congressional policy staffer or in a similar government affairs role.
Experience working directly with federal agencies, Congressional offices, or industry coalitions on regulatory or legislative matters.
Experience at a member-based trade association is a plus.
Knowledge of food policy, tax policy, and/or energy/sustainability policy is a plus.
Strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory process, with the ability to analyze and interpret bills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, succinctly and effectively.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legislative tracking software
