The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS)
BPS was established in 1976 as an autonomous division of APhA and is responsible for developing effective certification programs for specialty practices in pharmacy. BPS recognizes 15 distinct specialties and more than 60,900 active pharmacist certifications both nationally and internationally.
The mission of BPS is to improve patient care by promoting the recognition and value of specialized training, knowledge, and skills in pharmacy and specialty board certification of pharmacists. We accomplish this mission by:
Providing leadership for the profession of pharmacy in the discussion, evolution, direction and recognition of specialty board certification of pharmacists.
Establishing and promoting, in collaboration with stakeholders, the value of pharmacy specialization and board certification.
Establishing the standards for identification and recognition of pharmacy specialties.
Establishing standards of eligibility, knowledge, and skills for pharmacists as the basis for board certification.
Developing and administering a valid process to evaluate the knowledge and skills for recognition of board-certified pharmacists.
Assessing and recognizing the continued eligibility, knowledge, and skills of board-certified pharmacist specialists through a valid re-certification process.

WHAT YOU’LL DO The Executive Director, Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), will be a forward-thinking leader with a strong ability to balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational responsibilities in order to solidify BPS’ position as a high-quality credentialing agency. This position will work closely with the Board of Directors to shape the strategic direction and initiatives and prioritize financial and operational strength, internal and external collaborations and build awareness while marketing the value of specialty recognition and certification. The Executive Director will develop and implement strategic and operational goals to the organization’s mission, identifying challenges and opportunities and translating these into actionable plans for growth and innovation. Serving as the Secretary for the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will develop board meeting agendas, identify new areas of involvement for the board and implement decisions/policy of the Board.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR APhA may be the right fit for you if you have:
A bachelor’s degree in pharmacy (B.S. or Pharm.D.), post-graduate degree and/or advanced training is preferred.
Minimum 15 years’ experience of relevant experience with significant executive level management experience.
Previous or current certification in a BPS-recognized specialty is preferred.
Knowledge of certification processes and/or a basic understanding of certification program operations is desirable.
Previous involvement with major pharmacy associations is desirable
Possess dynamic leadership and supervisory skills, open to continuous evolution both personally and professionally.
Successful track record in contract management, budget management, and program management.
Demonstrated ability to bridge strategic needs with tactical implementation.
Ability to influence outcomes without direct authority, develop strategic partnerships, negotiate high-stakes contracts, and work with professionals across industries.
Concise, compelling oral and written communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff while working both in person and remotely.
Advanced knowledge of Office 365/Microsoft Office products.
Required Certifications within 5 years of employment:
Certified Credentialing Professional (ICE-CCP)
Lean Six Sigma White Belt
