Position Summary: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and financial sustainability of Matheny. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO will inspire, guide, and implement strategies that align with Matheny’s mission of improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. This role will require a visionary leader who can balance innovative approaches with practical operations to ensure excellence in care, education, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive strategic plan in partnership with the Board of Trustees to guide Matheny’s growth and impact.
Maintain a clear vision for Matheny’s future while honoring its history and mission.
Anticipates future trends, challenges and opportunities in healthcare, education, and disability services to position Matheny as a leader in these sectors.
Operational Management
Lead daily operations, ensuring that Matheny’s programs and services meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Cultivate and encourage an organizational culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Lead and support a diverse and skilled team of professionals, fostering leadership at all levels.
Financial Sustainability
Develop and oversee the organization’s budget, ensuring financial health and transparency.
Build relationships with funders, donors, and grant-making entities to secure ongoing financial support.
Identify new revenue streams to diversify and sustain Matheny’s financial resources.
Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the primary ambassador for Matheny, strengthening relationships with key stakeholders, including patients, families, community members, and policymakers.
Advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities at local, state, and national levels.
Ensure transparent and effective communication with the Board, staff, and external stakeholders.
Embody and promote Matheny's Core Values of Professionalism, Integrity, Compassion, and Respect in all leadership actions and decision-making.
Governance and Compliance
Work closely with the Board of Trustees to align organizational goals and governance practices.
Ensure compliance with state, federal, and industry regulations, including requirements from the Department of Human Services/DDD, Department of Education/DOE, and Joint Commission/TJC.
Quality and Safety
Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality improvement by establishing and monitoring key performance indicators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient-centered care.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Licensed nursing home administrator experience a plus
A minimum of ten years in a senior leadership role.
Proven success in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and financial management.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Experience with nonprofit organizations and fundraising is highly desirable.
Familiarity with licensed healthcare facilities preferred and education systems is a plus.
