IAFC, headquarters located in McLean, VA, is now hiring a full-time hybrid Government Relations Manager to join our growing team.  At IAFC, we offer a dynamic and challenging work environment that fosters innovation, creativity, and growth.

Responsibilities for this position include:

• Monitoring pertinent federal legislative and regulatory activities that impact the fire service
• Making the association’s views known to legislators, policymakers, and regulators at all levels of the federal government
• Covering public and media activities relating to key fire service legislative and regulatory issues.
• Communicate government relations activities to IAFC members and serve as staff liaison to the relevant committees/sections for EMS-related program areas.
• Developing strategies, position papers and Congressional testimony
• Ensure teamwork, communication, professionalism and ethics are top priorities

Ideal Candidate Requirements:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of government relations experience, including knowledge of Capitol Hill, and first-hand experience dealing with federal agencies and policymakers
• Possess a BA/BS degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field.
• Politically astute and have the ability to understand policy issues and the legislative process
• Prior fire service experience and knowledge of public safety, public affairs and corporate communications
• Must be detail-oriented, possess good organizational skills and have the ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines
• Excellent communication and customer service skills including strong written and oral communication skills
