We're excited to add this new role to our team! The Director, Marketing reports to the CEO and collaborates with the staff, board, and volunteers to drive the growth and visibility of The Nonprofit Alliance (TNPA), a trade association that formed in 2018 to promote, protect, and strengthen the nonprofit sector. Members of The Nonprofit Alliance are nonprofit organizations and firms that work alongside nonprofits toward a shared purpose of public engagement and mission impact.
The Director, Marketing is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing strategies that enhance TNPA's brand, increase awareness, and effectively communicate the value proposition to nonprofit organizations and their strategic partner companies.
TNPA is located in downtown Washington, DC. This is an in-person role with flexible hybrid work options, open to employees residing in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Some travel is required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies aligned with organizational goals, including:
increase membership and member engagement,
increase program attendance, and
educate audiences on legislative policy issues.
Manage and execute the organization’s email channel communications, including weekly newsletters, event and program promotions, guest blog posts, and action alerts.
Create compelling marketing collateral and presentations for various audiences; lead content strategy and development for all marketing channels, including digital, print, video, and social media.
Oversee website content and optimization.
Create and maintain brand standards, and collaborate with staff to ensure consistent messaging across all organizational communications.
Foster a continuous improvement culture by monitoring industry trends and implementing innovative marketing approaches.
Manage external communications, including press releases and media engagement.
Organize and maintain a bank of graphics assets (logos, photos, etc.).
Support the marketing and communications needs of advisory boards and committees.
Provide general and administrative support for staff printing and design needs (e.g., letterhead and business card orders, layout and design for forms and reports, PowerPoint presentation design).
Represent TNPA at industry events and conferences.
To be successful in this role, flexibility and a willingness to stretch are critical. As with all small teams, opportunities and needs arise that do not fit neatly into any one person’s role, and responsibilities will evolve as the organization grows (“other duties as assigned”).
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in marketing and communications within a trade association, with demonstrated success in brand development and strategic marketing initiatives.
Superb written communication skills, including proficiency with proofreading and editing.
Excellent organization and attention to detail, with demonstrated comms and marketing management skills.
High degree of comfort with marketing automation platforms, AMS/CRM systems (GrowthZone experience is a plus, but not required), WordPress, and digital marketing tools, with proven ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
Excellence in content creation, storytelling, and multi-channel marketing communications.
Comfort with exploring opportunities to use generative AI.
Experience with marketing metrics and ROI measurement.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and marketing-related software platforms.
Entrepreneurial spirit and innovative mindset.
Solid judgment and demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, balance varied tasks, and thrive in a busy environment.
Comfort working independently and within a team, both in-person and virtual, interrelating and operating effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial yet demanding work environment.
Enthusiasm for the charitable nonprofit sector is a must, and interest in advocacy is a bonus. Must be willing to support and serve members representing a broad range of cause areas.
