The Opportunity
The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), founded in 1965, is one of the oldest and largest professional organizations for industrial designers. IDSA is a national professional society for industrial designers who create and develop concepts and specifications that optimize the function, value and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of the user and manufacturer.
IDSA is searching for a talented Senior Manager of Member and Community Recognition who will play a vital role in the development and execution of both strategy and tactics for IDSA’s global awards and recognition portfolio. They will focus daily efforts on IDSA’s flagship International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), a highly regarded global design competition garnering approximately 2,000 entries over 20 different design categories. In addition, they will also oversee the IDSA Awards and the IDSA Student Merit Awards by the organization. The position requires a skilled relationship builder, comfortable with external recognition by industry professionals, design organizations and volunteers as a trusted partner who curates innovative, memorable and pride-provoking exposure to IDSA’s awards that elevate the organization’s brand presence and standing within the global design community.
This is a fully remote position, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), with limited travel required for IDEA jurying, IDSA’s annual International Design Conference & Education Symposium, industry events as needed, and internal staff gatherings throughout the year.
Qualified candidates are expected to be highly organized, communicative, and detail-oriented, thriving in fast-paced, high-performance environments. Short and long-term objectives are achieved through meticulous planning and hands-on execution, ensuring their approach is based upon extensive knowledge of association best practices and pillars of operational excellence when it comes to awards and committee management.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Development
An accomplished, proven professional that remains current on award and stakeholder recognition curation trends, successfully proposing and executing innovative ideas for IDSA’s awards and recognition engagement activities.
Calculated, data-driven risk taker who is unafraid to experiment with new ideas and stakeholder experiences that push the boundaries of IDSA’s traditional approaches.
Actively lead, supervise, and mentor an awards support professional, providing opportunities for demonstrated career growth and development through delegation and expanding scopes of responsibility.
Fosters and models a culture of innovation, collaboration, two-way communication, continuous learning and excellence.
Viewed as the face of IDSA’s awards programming with external stakeholders, leading to the cultivation of long-lasting, industry-defining, and revenue generating (if possible) relationships and partnerships, including IDSA’s relationship with The Henry Ford Museum, that expand the presence and success of IDSA’s awards within the global landscape.
IDEA and Awards Program Execution and Excellence
Collaborate cross-functionally to develop and execute muti-faceted, comprehensive, full-cycle awards and recognition project plans, spanning from program launch through winner promotion, that achieve outcomes tied to IDSA’s strategic plans.
Relentlessly track and monitor award submission performance while simultaneously managing multiple deadlines, schedules and budgets to ensure financial goals are met and smooth execution of operations of all awards program launches.
Provides clear, meticulous, and sophisticated communication with internal and external stakeholders, consistently fostering trust and confidence.
Carefully recruits and provides leadership for high-profile, world-renown, volunteer awards committees and juries of up to 40+ individuals, developing structures and processes that achieve high standards for recognition of design excellence.
Continuously ensures IDSA’s awards technology delivers a world-class experience through comprehensive system configuration and program administration.
Financial Management and Trends Analysis
Monitors trends in entrant/participant behavior and utilizes feedback to continuously grow IDSA’s awards portfolio.
Prepares regular reports, analysis and presentations on the performance and impact of the awards programs.
Reviews monthly financial statements, identifies areas of strength and concern, raising issues and solutions with senior leadership, and advises on strategies and adjusts tactics to achieve budget goals.
Strategizes and presents ideas for revenue expansion opportunities and ways to increase efficiencies while reducing expenses.
