Purpose of Position
To assist AdvaMed member companies with issues encountered in foreign markets. To address policy issues, especially in the areas of reimbursement and regulatory requirements through interaction with government officials and other stakeholders in these countries. To maximize member company access to foreign markets by advocating for policies that facilitate regulatory approval, adequate payment, and minimize trade barriers. Knowledge of economies in Southeast Asia such as India, Indonesia and Thailand and the ASEAN region a plus.
Essential Duties of Position
Facilitates strategic planning, implements new member initiatives and policy development in assigned markets, and promotes exports by members
Manages AdvaMed’s efforts to improve reimbursement and regulatory environment in assigned areas
Assists in the design and implementation of AdvaMed’s strategy planning internally and among key member groups
Provides policy, planning, administration and, where possible, technical support to committees, groups and task forces focused on assigned areas
Manages and coordinates internal projects with other AdvaMed departments
Develops positions and coordinates with the department head and other AdvaMed staff in advocating and implementing programs in areas such as trade policy, trade negotiations, SME exports promotion, manufacturing policy, and foreign regulatory, payment, and healthcare systems
Conducts negotiations on critical issues with appropriate foreign authorities
Represents the Association at international meetings and with US and foreign governments, trade associations, academia, media, and other relevant groups
Develops programs and materials for member education and recruitment, both among member and non-member companies, to participate in international efforts involving foreign markets
Prepares white papers and/or articles for internal and external publications and communicates key developments to members
Organizes briefing materials, speeches, testimony, and other papers for use by AdvaMed staff and senior industry executives visiting assigned areas or Washington, DC to promote AdvaMed’s policy objectives
Analyzes and synthesizes changes in both regulatory and reimbursement processes in assigned markets and develops informed policy options for consideration by AdvaMed’s memberships
Builds industry and key stakeholder coalitions and develops programs to inform and influence health care policy makers in key markets
Manages Working Groups comprised of member companies to survey and assess challenges in these markets and build consensus on industry’s advocacy strategy
Partners with and proactively engages key stakeholders including the US government, international industry associations, foreign governments, WHO, and think tanks to advocate AdvaMed’s positions
Working closely with the FDA, leverages AdvaMed’s technical expertise to develop and implement regulatory programs and capacity building for partners in key emerging markets
Provides guidance and technical expertise to AdvaMed’s emerging growth companies on the regulatory and health policy environment in key markets
Expands AdvaMed’s outreach to third party influences
Addresses policy issues in overseas markets on industry coverage, coding, and reimbursement issues, with direct oversight of specific markets under the direction of the department head
When necessary, serves as industry liaison for external groups focused on clinical evidence and research
Expands AdvaMed’s presence; manages any new AdvaMed offices abroad, including strategic planning, staffing, and monitoring progress

Working knowledge of the medical device industry
Experience in coordinating support with federal agency officials

Availability outside normal business hours to accommodate international time zones
Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree in relevant discipline preferred. Fluency in certain foreign languages may be required.
Minimum Experience Required: At least 6 years of trade policy experience, health care/payment policy; and/or similar policy experience directly relevant to the duties of the position; supervisory and project management experience; and a track record of analytic work related to international trade policy and/or reimbursement policy.
Contacts Required: Member and non-member companies, US and foreign government policymakers, regulatory agencies, professional and trade organizations and/or academia.
Travel Required: Up to 30%, international.
