Position Summary
The Member Engagement & Online Communities Coordinator is responsible for cultivating meaningful connections with members and amplifying their experiences, contributions, and interests through our social media and NIRSA-owned communication channels. This role will serve as a central voice for the association on social media, driving member engagement, retention, and responsiveness while ensuring alignment with our strategic framework. By highlighting the association’s value, fostering community spirit, and showcasing opportunities, this position will support key goals, advancing our mission to advocate for the advancement of recreation, sport, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Member Engagement & Communication
Member-Focused Content: Create content that reflects member interests, needs, and successes, with the goal of fostering a welcoming and inclusive online community.
Community Interaction: Actively engage with members on social platforms by responding to comments, messages, and tags, ensuring timely responses that reflect our association’s mission and values.
Highlight Member Achievements: Develop and maintain a system for sharing member stories, accomplishments, and events that promote a sense of belonging and pride within the association.
Social Media Management
Content Creation & Planning: Produce and schedule social media posts across channels, ensuring consistency in tone and alignment with strategic framework. Leverage tools like Canva or other design platforms to create graphics and multimedia content.
Strategy & Analytics: Keep up with social media trends and monitor platform performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations to optimize strategy. Leverage trends and data analysis to enhance member engagement and increase the association's impact.
Representation: Serve as the face of the association on social media, fostering authentic connections with the community by representing the association's voice through thoughtful engagement, live updates, and interactive content.
Real-Time Event Coverage: Lead social media coverage for annual events and conferences by designing and executing a fully integrated social media strategy and plan. This could include pre-event member polls, live updates, event highlights, live-streaming, and post-event recaps using data visualization to showcase member experiences and engagement.
Collaborative Content Development
Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with internal teams, to support strategic communications and ensure alignment on member-focused content.
Content Writing & Editing: Assist with writing, copy-editing, and proofreading for various communications, including newsletters, email campaigns, and website content.
Newsletter Creation & Management: Develop, write, and design engaging newsletters (Know, 3-in-3, Webinars & Networking) that reflect the association's strategic goals, deliver value to members, and increase engagement. Coordinate content with relevant departments to highlight member achievements, upcoming events, and association initiatives. Use analytics to monitor open and click-through rates, refining content and design to improve impact and relevance.
Web Content: Upload articles and updates to the NIRSA website and assist with basic web edits on NIRSA’s WordPress site, ensuring content is fresh, relevant, and consistent with style guidelines.
Resource Development: Help create and maintain a member-focused social media guide to support regional representatives and other stakeholders in maintaining consistent, engaging messaging.
Brand & Policy Management
Consistency & Quality Control: Ensure all communications align with brand guidelines and uphold the association’s style and tone.
Social Media Policy: Support the development and regular updating of the social media handbook and policies, ensuring safe, respectful, and professional interactions within the member community.
