The Senior Director, Publishing and Product Development provides senior management leadership to ACOGs comprehensive publishing, editorial, and product portfolio, overseeing the development, integration, and performance of clinical, educational, and consumer content across multiple platforms. This senior management role encompasses operational oversight of peer-reviewed journals, digital and print publications, continuing medical education programs, patient education resources and emerging technologies. The Senior Director ensures that ACOGs publishing and product development operations align with organizational mission, advance evidence-based medical practice, and deliver measurable value to members, healthcare professionals, and the broader obstetric and gynecologic community.
Note: This position is considered Hybrid and will need to commute to ACOG's office located in Washington, D.C.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the COO and executive leadership to develop comprehensive strategies for ACOGs publishing and product portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and goals.
Implement enterprise-wide content strategy initiatives, integrating traditional publishing with digital innovation, continuing education, and emerging technologies.
Translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans with measurable outcomes and key performance indicators (KPIs)
Provide recommendations and analysis to executive leadership on publishing and product development industry trends, competitive landscape, and strategic opportunities.
Identify and evaluate new product opportunities aligned with member needs, market trends, and revenue generation goals.
Provide management, mentoring, and professional development to direct and indirect reports. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high performing culture across the department that promotes innovation and excellence.
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with external partners including commercial publishers, platform providers, distribution and fulfillment vendors, and other business partners.
Manage annual publishing and product development budget and conduct financial analysis and business case development for new initiatives and strategic investments.
Support ACOG Editorial Boards and Committee structure related to publications and educational content.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Senior management leadership with deep understanding of medical publishing, professional development, and digital content strategy.
Comprehensive knowledge of scholarly publishing industry including peer review, editorial processes, and publishing ethics.
Strong business acumen with ability to implement strategic plans and manage operational budgets.
Excellence in stakeholder management, including volunteer leadership, external partners, and diverse professional communities.
Advanced analytical skills with experience in data-driven decision making and performance optimization.
Outstanding communication skills with ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences including medical professionals and senior leadership..
Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree.
Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in medical/scientific publishing, content strategy, and professional association management.
Minimum 3 years of senior management experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex product portfolios.
Demonstrated experience with peer-reviewed journal management and scholarly publishing operations.
Proven track record in digital transformation and technology implementation in publishing environments.
Salary Range
$145,000—$160,000 USD
