Summary of Position
The Vice President of Member Engagement is primarily responsible for collaborating across the organization to implement recruitment and retention activities across all types of individual membership in line with AMIA’s strategic plan and leverage member engagement to strengthen relationships, drive growth, and ensure retention. This position also ensures AMIA provides best-in-class membership experience and high-quality service and support.
A successful candidate will be a strategic, self-motivated professional with expertise in database management and membership growth.
Dimensions
This position has functional oversight but no direct report.
This position has $500,000+ budget authority.
Nature and Scope
The Vice President of Member Engagement plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing strategies that enhance the value and impact of AMIA’s individual membership offerings. This position collaborates across departments including Marketing, IT, and Operations, to ensure a cohesive, data-driven approach to member satisfaction and organizational growth. With responsibility for membership analytics, systems optimization, and cross-functional initiatives, the role demands strong leadership, strategic insight, and a commitment to continuous improvement. The VP also serves as a key voice in aligning membership efforts with AMIA’s broader mission and goals.
Principle Accountabilities
Oversee individual membership recruitment and retention budgets. Develop, grow, and manage budgets related to this department’s efforts, totaling over $500,000.
Own membership data hygiene. Ensure that AMIA’s association management system, Salesforce/Fonteva, is fully utilized throughout the organization and maintains responsibility for data integrity, data maintenance, and reporting functions.
Set and champion membership recruitment and retention goals, develop strategies to drive results, establish clear value messaging, and report on metrics necessary to meet or exceed organizational sustainability.
Lead individual membership product definition. Regularly review membership structure and pricing, and value proposition to ensure AMIA membership remains an attractive, competitive offer to individual member prospects. Work closely with MarCom to develop and maintain value-centered messaging designed to attract individual members across all categories and reinforce AMIA’s unique member experience.
Design and deliver membership insights to the organization. Manage efforts to survey members and analyze feedback to inform decision-making in support of a member-focused culture.
Drive membership results reporting. Run, analyze, and act on routine and special reporting including but not limited to KPI reports, Board of Director update, and monthly reports.
Manage affinity and other member benefits programs by collaborating across departments with key external stakeholders.
Own strategy for member recruitment and engagement campaigns and communication to ensure prospects and members are educated on the benefits and remain actively engaged to drive retention. Partner with MarCom on campaign design, messaging, and execution.
Provide staff leadership and management to the Membership, Women in AMIA, and Working Group Coordinating Committees, and additional interest groups and committees, as needed.
Identify, develop, and implement mutually beneficial collaborations with other organizations to promote AMIA membership and represent AMIA as needed at external events.
Lead AMIA’s volunteer outreach efforts to increase member involvement, understanding that engagement is a positive indicator of member retention.

Qualifications
Demonstrated success in using key performance indicators, metrics, and complex analytics to inform business strategies and advance strategic priorities.
Minimum 7 years of experience with professional or nonprofit association leading, developing, and implementing membership-related projects.
Experience working with volunteer leadership.
Experience with association management systems, preferably SF/F, including but not limited to developing and analyzing reports related to member activity.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set priorities, and exercise sound judgment in a complex, fast-moving environment and contribute at a strategic level.
Travel Requirements
Required: Must be able to travel 7-10 days per year.

Regular Review: Participate in regular reviews and discussions of progress in leadership team meetings, with progress evaluated at the end of each month.

AMIA makes a pre-tax safe harbor contribution (3% of bimonthly salary) on behalf of employees.
Match: if employee defers up to 6% of their salary, AMIA will match the employee’s contribution up to 6% (pre-tax).
Pre-tax and Roth options for employee’s elective deferral is available.
Employees are eligible to enroll when hired, after a one-month service requirement; or wait until calendar year open enrollment. Per-pay amounts are deducted on a pre-tax basis for use during the plan the year (only) for medical or dependent care expenses.

Annual Leave
