The Association for Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is looking for a Vice President, Culture and Belonging. This permanent, full-time position is located in Arlington, VA. The incumbent is required to come to AFP headquarters located in Arlington, Virginia two days/week – Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Vice President, Culture and Belonging develops, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, the strategic direction for AFP’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) commitment. The Vice President, Culture and Belonging is responsible for conceptualizing, executing, implementing, and measuring the success of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) principles and practices across the entire organization, including but not limited to: IDEA programs and initiatives. The Vice President, Culture and Belonging has a unique opportunity to build a Culture and Belonging department with support from the CEO, while leading strategy and implementation across all departments.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
In alignment with the AFP Strategic Plan, assists in integrating diversity across the organization, including educational content, programming, advocacy, research, and membership
Manages a cohesive broad-based strategy to foster the integration of IDEA practices and procedures within the AFP culture impacting membership, staff, and volunteer communities
Creates and implements dynamic, intentional, and relevant IDEA programs
Works internally and externally to establish a network of experts and organizations involved in the global discussion of IDEA to consistently advise leaders on innovative ideas, policy development and program concepts for consideration, selection and implementation
Serves as the staff lead for the IDEA Committee, Women’s Impact Initiative Committee, affinity groups, scholarships, and Emerging Leader programs.
Develops, manages, and provides strategic direction, leadership and administrative management of all IDEA programs and initiatives
Guides and leads efforts to create an environment that values and demonstrates commitment to IDEA
Implements and provides ongoing assessments on IDEA practices, policies, and procedures
Primary Internally Facing Job Responsibilities
Works closely with HR and advisors to ensure consistency in all HR policies, procedures and hiring practices, develops onboarding training with focus on inclusion, respect, and culture
Develops and carries out strategies for all internal IDEA initiatives in close collaboration with the HR team and the CEO
Educates staff on relevant topics to augment and enhance IDEA programs
Ensures cross-functional integration with the leadership team
Collaborates with all department VPs to develop IDEA metrics for each department
Develops dashboards to ensure accountability, tracking, and monitoring of IDEA efforts across organization
Primary Externally Facing Job Responsibilities
Educates and supports chapters on relevant topics to augment and enhance IDEA programs
Builds strategic partnerships with chapters
Research, shares, and implements best practices with members and chapters
Collaborates with members and chapters to ensure application of IDEA initiatives
Interfaces with the AFP Boards of Directors, AFP committees and chapter leaders
Establishes relationships with other professional organizations and special interest groups for networking and information exchange
Creates and sustains relationships with diverse partner organizations
Establishes, aligns, and integrates a wide range of programs, policies, and initiatives to ensure the achievement of a diverse membership community
Collaborates with program leads on IDEA efforts such as section programs, emerging leaders, etc.
Leadership & Collaboration
Represents the IDEA department across the association and members
Creates and manages the IDEA budget
Builds, manages, and maintains relationships with volunteers, vendors, third parties, and division leaders within the organization to explore new and effective ways to support the IDEA programs and initiatives
Maintains effective working relationships with management, staff, members, volunteers, board members, committees, and stakeholders
Impact on End Results: The major objective for this role is to develop, administer, grow, and monitor all IDEA programs and initiatives internally and externally at AFP Global HQ.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 10 + years of relevant experience, with 7 years in a strategic or operational Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) position
Membership Association and/or nonprofit experience preferred
Qualifications:
This position could include program development, learning and development, or organizational development
Proven success in the development, implementation, and evaluation of IDEA programs and initiatives at all organizational levels (Board, Executive, and Staff levels)
Knowledge of professional educational programs
Demonstrates a proven ability in developing and supporting continuous improvement principles utilizing a systemic approach and data for decision-making
Experience leading transformational or organizational change
Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and strategic plans
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, simultaneous assignments and set appropriate priorities
Outstanding professionalism and interpersonal and communication skills
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint and Outlook
Serious commitment to providing excellent customer service
Experience working and building teams with volunteers and committees.
Demonstrable experience in developing and managing budgets, hiring, training, developing, supervising and evaluating staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to develop and implement IDEA programs and initiatives
Maintain up to date knowledge and awareness of current events, trends, and best practices related to IDEA work and policies in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors
Strong oral and written communication skills
Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting short deadlines in a fast-paced environment
