The Managing Editor will be responsible for contributing to the daily operations of the JCF Family of Journals, which includes the Journal of Cardiac Failure (JCF) and the Journal of Cardiac Failure-Intersections(JCF-I). While reporting to the Vice President, Journal Publishing, the Managing Editor will work with the Vice President, all Editors-in-Chief and Deputy Editors of the JCF Journals and any HFSA staff to oversee the processing of manuscripts, coordinating peer review, and handling correspondence and production issues (e.g., preparing manuscripts for publication).
This is a virtual position and affords maximum flexibility for work-life balance.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Work on all aspects of manuscript processing and production for submissions to the jouranls. This includes but is not limited to checking in new and revised submissions; coordinating the peer review process; handling correspondence with authors, reviewers, and other parties.
Support the Editors-in-Chief, Deputy Editors, Editorial Boards, and HFSA staff with the manuscript submission and peer review process, fostering collaboration, innovation, and new content initiatives
Answer e-mails in the shared JCF Journals e-mail account, working closely with authors, editors, and reviewers to make sure manuscripts are processed in a timely and efficient manner.
Coordinate and be responsible for JCF Journals editorial board meetings, helping disseminate agendas and paper to discuss to the board as well as preparing and recording the decisions of board to be sent to authors.
Oversee the statistical reviewer process for provisionally accepted papers.
Provide logistical support for journal initiatives, including coordination and scheduling of calls for Editorial Board Member calls (4 x year); Task Force calls (TBD); and Mentorship program calls (1 x month for 9 months).
Oversee and manage the JCF Guest Editor Focus Issue process for the journal, 2x a year.
Responsible for all management, communication and metric reporting of the Reviewer improvement initiative.
Copyedit JCF Journals’ communications, including but not limited to eTOCs, JCF Engage newsletters, other marketing materials, website pages, etc. with input from Director, Journal Publishing.
Prepare any reports required by the Editors-in-Chief, Deputy Editor, Editorial Board or HFSA leadership on the status of the journal.
Provides back up to the Vice President, Journal Publishing as necessary.

Bachelor’s degree required
Excellent writing/editorial skills
Ability to work independently and remotely; previous experience with Zoom and Microsoft Teams is preferred
Strong computer skills, with working knowledge publishing software and tools
Dedication to customer service and ability to work well in a team environment with physicians, executives, contractors, consultants, and other staff
Attention to detail and ability to complete assigned tasks within established deadlines
Ability to rapidly learn the online JCF submission platform
