AUPHA (Association of University Programs in Health Administration), a professional healthcare educational association located in downtown Washington, DC, seeks a Meetings and Technology Specialist with keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, excellent verbal, written communication, and technological skills, and the ability to balance innovative improvements with the need for buy-in from several stakeholders.
Since its inception in 1948, AUPHA has supported academic faculty in health administration and healthcare management education programs. A full history of AUPHA can be accessed here. Today, AUPHA serves as the voice of academic healthcare management, providing significant benefits to its 260 Full and Associate program members.
Under the leadership of the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, the Meetings and Technology Specialist is responsible for most aspects of a small meetings program (an Annual Meeting held in the summer, an Academic Program and Practitioner Workshop held in the spring, and a small, short meeting usually held in March) and technological needs of the association, to include handling the annual Call for Proposals process, updates to the association’s website, creation of meeting microsites to include registration pages, creation of a digital Annual Meeting program guide, onsite meetings management (including serving as a presenter liaison at onsite meetings), and other duties as required.
The Specialist establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, leaders, Board members, volunteers, and the broad and diverse AUPHA membership while owning and managing tasks related to meetings and technology. The Specialist fosters a collaborative environment across these important stakeholders in order to achieve AUPHA’s strategic goals and objectives as they relate to all events.
Required Experience and Skills:
A minimum of two years’ experience managing or coordinating logistically complicated projects with preference given to those who have been awarded the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation or willingness to pursue it. Bachelor’s degree required. Experience working in a non-profit association desired. High level of proficiency in the use of technology, including Office 365 products (particularly Excel) and online software platforms such as Alchemer, MemberSuite, Higher Logic, etc.
The Specialist must have demonstrated experience:
Proactively managing and owning a large volume of work with complex timelines;
Implementing and managing systems to track all pieces of a project;
Taking initiative to ensure all aspects of a project are completed on-target and on-time;
Analyzing, interpreting, and translating data into well-written reports for public consumption;
Utilizing quantitative and qualitative feedback to spur programmatic and process improvements;
Effectively communicating with key stakeholders verbally and in writing.
Other Details:
This is a full-time, regular, exempt position with a 35-hour work week, M-F. Employees typically work 8-4, 8:30-4:30, or 9-5.
The office operates on a hybrid schedule with at least one day in the office per month and additional days in office as needed. Note that shortly after hiring, the successful candidate may be required to be in the office more frequently for various training. Travel is required for AUPHA's Academic Program and Practitioner Workshop (APPW) each March and for the Annual Meeting each June; additional travel may be included for other conferences and meetings as needed.
Salary starting at $58,500 to $65,000 (maximum) annually.
