We are currently seeking a highly motivated Association Manager for ACEC/MD (American Council of Engineering Companies of Maryland). This key position will provide leadership and support for the operations, membership, advocacy, and growth of ACEC/MD, a premier association for the engineering industry in Maryland.
About ACEC/MD:
ACEC/MD is a leading business association that represents the interests of Maryland’s engineering firms, from small, local businesses to large, nationally recognized companies. With over 85 member firms and 6,000 local employees, ACEC/MD serves as a voice for the engineering profession in Maryland, focusing on advocacy, professional development, networking, and the advancement of the engineering industry. ACEC/MD is part of ACEC, a national federation with over 6,000 member firms that design more than $100 billion in annual capital projects.
Position Overview:
As the Association Manager for ACEC/MD, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the association, working directly with the Board of Directors to drive the organization’s mission and goals. This role requires a strong focus on advocacy, membership growth, operational management, and strategic planning to support ACEC/MD’s members and ensure the association’s continued success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advocacy and Brand Development: Serve as the public face and voice of ACEC/MD, building and maintaining relationships with government agencies, industry groups, and the public to promote the association’s priorities. Oversee a proactive government affairs program and represent ACEC/MD’s interests at both state and national levels, including working with ACEC National and NAECE leadership.
- Membership Management and Growth: Work to increase membership value, recruit new members, and maintain strong engagement with existing members. Act as a liaison between ACEC/MD and its members, ensuring their needs are met and facilitating communication with the Board and committees.
- Operational Leadership: Manage the day-to-day operations of ACEC/MD, including coordinating events and programs, preparing and managing the annual budget, and ensuring the overall effectiveness of the association. Supervise staff, manage consultants and vendors, and ensure the legal and financial integrity of the organization.
- Strategic Leadership and Development: Work with the Board to set and implement strategic goals, policies, and objectives. Help guide the direction of the organization, ensuring that ACEC/MD’s mission and values are reflected in its activities and programs.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in association management, including experience with financial oversight, legislative processes, event planning, and organizational leadership. You should be a strong communicator, adept at managing multiple priorities, and capable of developing and maintaining positive relationships with members, stakeholders, and government agencies. Experience working with engineering firms or technical associations is a plus.

The ideal candidate will have a B.A. or B.S., preferably in association management or a related field,with a minimum of 10 years of experience and proven administrative and management skills. This position requires experience working with detailed financial management tools; strong oral and written communication, strong negotiation, organization, and time management skills; and proficiency in information technology systems such as Microsoft Office and related computer software programs. Preferred experience includes association management, working knowledge of legislative process, and direct involvement in the operation of state government.
