NABI is seeking a president who possesses strong leadership, managerial, relationship-building, and research skills to drive the needs of its members-driven association. The President is responsible for identifying members’ problems, issues, and needs; creating and executing appropriate strategies; and preparing necessary and useful resources.
Duties:
Keep members informed of the evolving alcohol regulatory environment (both federal and state), trade concerns, and alcohol taxes (including tariffs).
Help obtain answers to member questions regarding federal agency (e.g., Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, U.S. Customs and Boder Protection, and Food and Drug Administration) and state laws, regulations (including trade practices), and processes.
Work with the NABI Board to serve any additional needs and interests of the membership.
Develop, maintain, and leverage effective relationships with the executives of related associations, businesses, and industries related to the alcohol industry.
Stay informed and current on topics of interest to alcohol importers.
Organize and run meetings of the members (including two in-person Board meetings per year and monthly membership video meetings) and send regular updates to the members.
Recruit new members to join the association.
Build relationships with and represent the organization before federal and state regulators and legislators, and industry organizations to further and advocate for the association’s goals and objectives.
Oversee and prepare all communications including website content, newsletters, press releases, and other communications.
Analyze and share import data, industry trends, and relevant statistics.
Handle and take charge of all general administrative matters including the budget and financial operations, meeting agendas, association documents, contracts, and audits.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications or demonstrate equivalent experience:
Preferably located in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
At least ten years of professional experience in the alcohol industry and with its regulators.
Strong understanding of issues and challenges facing alcohol importers including expertise with the Federal Alcohol Administration Act (labeling) and regulations, Internal Revenue Code (alcohol related provisions), and state alcohol regulations.
Professional, tactful, and positive demeanor and ability to juggle to various personalities. Personal and professional ethics.
Polished verbal communication skills, including interpersonal, presentation, writing and public speaking skills.
Adept at thinking creatively and bringing new ideas and a fresh perspective to the association’s leadership.
Effective writing skills to prepare internal correspondences, statements, letters, articles, and position papers.
Strong ability to identify issues, offer clear solutions, and effectively execute strategies.
Advanced academic degree beyond bachelor’s degree (particularly J.D.) is preferred.
Established in 1935, the National Association of Beverage Importers (NABI) is a 501(c)(6) tax-exempt trade association of alcohol importers based in the U.S. NABI has approximately 30 member companies, and members range from smaller family-owned companies to larger private companies. The mission of NABI is to represent the interests of alcohol importers, which include relevant federal and state regulations, trade barriers, and legislative action.
