Overview
This full-time position is responsible for the overall management of the Association’s publications program designed to disseminate contemporary and cutting-edge research, public policies, and professional practices that advance the field of, and quality of life for, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The position is responsible for the Association’s books program, which includes acquiring new works (books, curricula, and tools) for professional audiences, and overseeing all aspects of their development, production, and marketing, and administers journal contracts.
Key Responsibilities
Operational management: Assure that works and projects are acquired, implemented, and concluded professionally; manage marketing processes; and manage communications with authors, vendors, and contractors to achieve the Association’s publishing goals.
Financial management: Contribute to the development of an annual departmental budget, participate in proposal development, develop budgets and pricing for book projects, monitor project and departmental budgets monthly, and execute projects within budget.
Managerial direction: Provide effective project management; assure that projects proceed in a timely manner; proactively identify problems and identify workable solutions; and supervise, and communicate effectively with, and support training of team members.
Travel to and participate in conferences, exhibits, and educational events as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree and history of progressively responsible experience in publishing.
Familiarity with the field of IDD.
Experience in book acquisitions, editing, production, and marketing.
Working knowledge of technologies used in book and journals publishing, ecommerce, and web platforms.
Experience in APA style and Microsoft Office software.
Essential Skills
Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize software programs, including Microsoft Office, at an acceptable rate of accuracy and speed.
Ability to understand, interpret, and perform job tasks based on oral and/or written directions with minimal prompts.
Ability to seek out, organize, and analyze relevant information to achieve performance goals.
Ability to produce clear written materials for technical and non-technical audiences and to self-edit most typographic and grammatical errors.
Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform close, detail work involving considerable visual effort and concentration.
Ability to effectively work with and serve a diverse community.
Ability to conduct work on a computer for long periods of time, speak via phone or video calls frequently during the day, and travel when needed.

This position is located in Silver Spring, MD. The position may be performed on a hybrid basis; however the position is not expected to be filled on a virtual or fully remote basis. Relocation expenses will not be covered.
