The Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) is the nonprofit trade organization dedicated to serving the tabletop games industry. Our members include game designers, publishers, retailers, distributors, manufacturers, media, and creators. Position Summary
The COO will serve as the second-in-command, working in close partnership with the Executive Director to lead internal operations, implement strategic initiatives, and ensure organizational excellence. This role is pivotal in optimizing how GAMA functions day-to-day and in the long term, helping us better serve our members and the broader tabletop ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Oversee daily operations across departments, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and alignment with strategic goals.
Develop and implement systems, policies, and processes that support organizational growth and sustainability.
Lead cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact programs and services.
Strategic Execution
Translate GAMA’s ten-year vision into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
Monitor key performance indicators and adjust strategies as needed to meet organizational objectives.
Support the Executive Director in board relations, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.
Team Development & Culture
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture grounded in GAMA’s Team Compass values: transparency, creativity, responsiveness, trust, and accountability.
Supervise and mentor department heads and staff, promoting professional growth and accountability.
Lead recruitment and onboarding efforts to build a strong, mission-aligned team.
Financial & Resource Management
Collaborate with the Executive Director and Finance team to manage budgets, financial reporting, and resource allocation.
Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings.
Event & Program Support
Provide strategic oversight and operational support for GAMA’s flagship events and programs.
Represent GAMA at industry events and with key partners as needed.
Qualifications
Proven experience in a senior operational or executive leadership role, preferably in a nonprofit or membership-based organization.
Strong background in organizational development, strategic planning, and team leadership.
Demonstrated success in project management; PMP (Project Management Professional) or CAE (Certified Association Executive) certification strongly preferred.
Experience managing complex projects and cross-functional teams with a focus on outcomes and continuous improvement.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with the tabletop games industry or a passion for gaming is a strong plus.
