The Executive Director often is described as the “glue” of the organization who provides the institutional memory and continuity as Board members rotate through roles and move on and off the Board. The Executive Director (“ED”) of the Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council (the “Council”) works hand-in-hand with the Board President, officers, directors and committees to achieve the Council’s goals of providing outstanding education and networking opportunities for its members which helps them render the highest possible service to the public.
This role requires in person participation at meetings and events throughout the year.
The Council’s ED is responsible for all day-to-day operations, under the direction of the Board and Committees, including:
All aspects of daily financial operations, including serving as primary contact with bank and other vendors, bookkeeping and coordinating with CPA for 990 preparation
Assuring corporate compliance with all required filings and documentation
Meeting planning including venue selection and contract negotiation, marketing, speaker support, on-site support and materials
Maintain historical documents and Council records in accordance with approved policy
Website content development and updating
Oversee social media presence
Database updating and maintenance
Calendar and program development
Board support and development
Support 14 committees
Manage annual golf tournament and biennial Symposium
Annual dues collection and administration
First-line contact with prospective members
Support for sponsorship program
Interface with National Association of Estate Planning Councils and attend annual leadership conference
Other duties as designated by the Board of Directors
Proficiency in Quickbooks, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Word and Excel, basic design software such as Canva. Knowledge of non-profit corporate governance requirements.
Average hours per month: 35.
Competitive compensation will be paid for this position commensurate with experience.
A similar position may also be available with respect to a similar organization in the Washington DC, Metropolitan area, subject to the candidate’s capacity, expertise and interest.
The Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council is a tax exempt 501(c)(6) organization. It was founded in 1940 and currently has more than 250 members who are credentialled estate planning professionals in a variety of disciplines. The Council hosts numerous educational and networking events throughout the year as well as an annual golf tournament and a biennial symposium. Most events are held in Washington, D.C. with a handful taking place in the close-in suburbs.
