Position Summary:
The Director of Analytics and Research Services (ARS) will lead a team to provide data and analytics support, direct or support non-medical research undertaken by ASA, evaluate existing research and conduct studies as needed to enhance the ASA’s patient-oriented advocacy-based agenda. Responsibilities include providing leadership and direction to the individual(s) within the department.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
· Strategic oversight of data, analytics, and research aligned with policy, advocacy, and workforce issues.
· Oversee ASA data and software acquisition for research and analytic purposes.
· Support the analytic and research needs of ASA Divisions, including Quality, Advocacy, Membership & Communications, Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI), and others as needed. Examples include: (1) conduct statistical (e.g., reliability and validity) testing and review/ recommend risk stratification and risk adjustment processes; (2) Conduct literature reviews for measure development & maintenance, and as requested by departments or ASA committees; (3) Collaborate with Advocacy Division on appropriate ASA research outputs to support advocacy initiatives.
· Manage the production of relevant public-facing materials that support ASA’s advocacy, quality, and membership initiations based upon data and research. Ensure quality of internal research and studies.
· Identify emerging policy issues and, in coordination with Quality and Advocacy staff, develop and coordinate policy analysis, research strategies, policy solutions, and appropriate messaging.
· Actively engage in collaborative meetings between the ASA Quality and Advocacy Divisions and key external stakeholders, including U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS), various medical specialties, and individual anesthesia departments.
· Contribute to the success of the Center for Anesthesia Workforce Studies (CAWS) and the Center for Anesthesia and Perioperative Economics (CAPE).
· Develop and maintain estimates of anesthesia workforce supply and demand, producing materials for member and anesthesia group audiences.
· Maintain current knowledge of and circulate relevant research related to health economics, health policy, and other health services research. Provide critical reviews and assessments on studies related to physician-led anesthesia care.
· Initiate research in support of physician-led anesthesia care and ensuring the economic integrity of anesthesiology.
· Establish and maintain working and strategic relationships with ASA physician leaders and select committees.
· Provide economic analysis of public and private insurance policies on anesthesiologists and anesthesia practices. Such policies include, but are not limited to, the No Surprises Act, Alternative Payment Models, Medicare Conversion Factors, Transparency in Coverage, and other ASA policy priorities.
· As a member of the Senior team, work collaboratively and cross-departmentally on all strategies and tactics to meet ASA’s mission and goals.
· Manages department staff, budgets, and resources, including workload and prioritization. Builds and cultivates a successful team of high-performing staff who demonstrate strong commitment to ASA values. Ensures the department meets deadlines and monitors performance against department goals.
· Conduct periodic scans of selected journals and reviews of articles relevant to ASA advocacy and goals and missions of selected ASA committees.
· Develop and maintain relationships with other researchers, appropriate federal agencies, foundations, and other entities.
· Submit research materials for publication in health economics, health policy, and related journals. Serve as external reviewer for peer-reviewed journals.
· Develop educational and policy briefing materials for presentation at ASA conferences, grand rounds, and other meetings, as appropriate.

ASA conducts market analysis of its positions, ensuring the compensation is comparable with jobs of the same level, skills, and abilities. ASA strives to be transparent with our pay practices both internally and externally.
Position Compensation:
This position is an exempt/salaried position. The target hiring pay range for this position is: $181,735.00 to $227,169.00 annually (or approximately $93.20 to $116.50 per hour). This position is eligible for a yearly bonus/incentive.
Compensation decisions consider a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, business needs, and organizational policies.

Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment with light noise. Work may be frequently interrupted. The employee will spend most of the workday sitting, computing, and talking/hearing. May require lifting (boxes) in the 10-25 lb. range requiring the ability to bend at the waist and knee.
Position Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in health services research, public health policy or related fields required with training in econometrics or biostatistics. PhD preferred.
· Minimum 10 years of related experience in managing complex research projects and research staff.
· Minimum 3 years of senior managerial or director experience in a related function.
· Substantial experience with large, complex data sets including payer claims and clinical registry data. Technical proficiency with advanced analytics tools such as SAS, Stata, and R.
· Familiarity and experience with public policy analysis/advocacy is essential.
· Experience as the principal investigator in a policy-related research initiative.
· Health policy, health services research, and/or economics background.
· Published research in nationally recognized health journals.
· Demonstrated skills in qualitative and quantitative analysis, including advanced statistics, are necessary.
· Proven ability to build credibility with peers, members, board members, etc.
· Leadership ability to leverage available resources, set clear goals for committees, members, and staff in achieving teamwork and collaborations.
