Are you a strategic leader with a passion for transportation policy, stakeholder engagement, and advancing the interests of franchised truck dealers? If so, NADA is looking for an ATD Director to drive advocacy, communications, and membership priorities—and be a strong advocate in the future of the commercial truck industry.
As ATD Director, you’ll manage day-to-day operations of the division, working in close coordination with NADA’s Public Policy and Industry Affairs teams. You’ll lead key initiatives that elevate ATD’s national presence, build industry coalitions, and deliver value to members through strategic communication and effective advocacy.
This is a full-time position based in Tysons, Virginia, with a collaborative team culture, competitive compensation, and excellent benefits. Duties require travel up to 25% of role.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify ATD public policy issues impacting franchised truck dealers and collaborate with NADA’s public policy team on strategy and engagement.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to ATD and assess potential challenges and opportunities.
Execute ATD’s annual dealer fly-in in coordination with NADA’s public policy team.
Communicate ATD’s positions to nationally elected dealer councils and secure their support on key issues.
Work with NADA Industry Relations staff to manage, analyze, and present results from ATD’s Dealer Attitude and Supplier Surveys.
Coordinate with industry coalitions and stakeholders to mobilize allies and advance shared objectives.
Lead ATD member outreach, respond to inquiries, and strengthen relationships with OEMs, suppliers, and industry associations.
Support the ATD President with content for the ATD Show, board reports, speeches, presentations, and weekly ATD Insider content.
Represent and promote ATD interests within the transportation industry through direct contact and by attendance at various events and meetings as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field—or equivalent experience.
Minimum 7 years of experience in transportation public policy, government relations, or within the light-duty/heavy-duty vehicle retail sector.
Deep understanding of the commercial truck industry and the franchise dealer business model.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to speak to diverse audiences and craft high-impact content.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
To be considered for this position, please submit a resume and a cover letter.
ATD and NADA are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We value every perspective and lived experience. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, veteran status, or any other protected class under federal, state, or local law.
The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), founded in 1917, represents more than 16,000 light-vehicle and commercial-truck dealerships with 32,500 domestic and international franchises. New vehicle franchised dealers are directly responsible for more than one million U.S. jobs.
