Vice President, Strategic Member Intelligence
LOCATION: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid)
ORGANIZATION: Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA)
POSITION TITLE: Vice President, Strategic Member Intelligence
REPORTS TO: CEO
TEAM SIZE: 7 FTEs (cross-functional across membership, marketing,
communications, and events)
DURATION: Full Time SALARY: $175,000 - $210,000/annually
Overview:
We are a $10M trade association serving companies in the business of information—financial data providers, database publishers, edtech firms, AI developers, and scientific publishers. As we modernize our member and market engagement function, we seek a Vice President to lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for member acquisition, retention, engagement, and brand visibility across our three divisions.
This is a transformational leadership role: the VP will unify membership and marketing functions, elevate data fluency, implement tools and processes that drive measurable growth, serving as a strategic partner to SIIA’s operating divisions. The ideal candidate combines strategic acumen with operational discipline, builds cross-functional alignment, and knows how to lead a team through change.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Reimagine and integrate the association’s membership and marketing strategy under a data-driven engagement vision.
Partner with heads of divisions to help them develop and evolve the member value proposition by segment, leveraging feedback, data, and market insight.
Serve as a strategic partner to division leaders to align engagement initiatives with advocacy, content, and commercial goals.
Data, Analytics & Technology
Partner with the CFO and system administrator to design and deploy an integrated data strategy (CRM, marketing automation, reporting dashboards).
Own member and prospect analytics—develop KPIs, track cohort behavior, and generate insight that drives better decisions.
Create a flowchart of current systems, identify gaps, and lead the roadmap to upgrade engagement technology (e.g., CMS, CRM, reporting tools).
Marketing Oversight
Supervise and professionalize the association’s marketing operation: campaigns, content, branding, digital outreach, and social media amplification.
Drive lead generation and pipeline development in partnership with membership and sales leads.
Oversee production calendars, creative processes, and marketing performance tracking.
Membership Management
Own the full membership lifecycle: acquisition, onboarding, renewal, and engagement.
Support division leaders in mapping and improving member experience across channels and touchpoints.
Lead the development of tools and standards to define, measure, and grow engagement (e.g., dashboards, engagement scoring, personas).
Team Leadership and Transformation
Lead and develop a cross-functional team, currently including roles in marketing, communications, member services, and events.
Restructure workflows, clarify roles, and grow internal capability—coaching team members in data fluency, campaign execution, and modern engagement tactics.
Create a culture of curiosity, ownership, and continuous learning.
Executive Communication & Thought Leadership
Present data-driven insights to the Board and senior staff with clarity and confidence.
Serve as a public-facing ambassador at times (e.g., presenting findings, representing the organization externally).
Contribute to thought leadership through articles, presentations, and member-facing content.
Qualifications
Required
10+ years of experience in membership, marketing, or engagement leadership within a business or professional association.
Demonstrated success managing CRM-driven engagement strategies and marketing campaigns.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing organizational change.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to create dashboards, segment audiences, and translate insights into action.
Executive presence and confidence presenting to C-suite and boards.
Preferred
Experience serving business, tech, or information-intensive industries. Association experience highly helpful, but not required.
Familiarity with tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Informz, or similar CRM/marketing platforms.
Working knowledge of content management systems and digital marketing workflows.
CAE designation or advanced degree in marketing, communications, or business.
Why This Role Matters
This is not a maintenance role. It’s a rebuild and elevate opportunity. Our board and CEO are committed to modernizing how we engage members and prospects. The incoming VP will have the opportunity to reshape the function, unify siloed operations, and lead a capable—but underutilized—team into its next phase of impact.
