Job Description
We are looking for a trailblazer in Marketing and Communications to join a small team of talented members and take us to the next level of engagement by marketing our new products and initiatives and effectively communicating our desire to influence the future of Civics.
This is an exciting time for Civics. Our teachers and business leaders are influencing the next generation of citizens and workforce. You can be a part of this exciting future using your expertise in marketing, leading the communications team to create a strategy which tells our story effectively, and being a significant leader within the organization as we experience significant growth.
As VP, Marketing and Communications, you will have the opportunity to create a marketing strategy which will include mentoring the existing team and building the capabilities needed as we grow. In addition to marketing, you will oversee messaging, brand building, and external communications. This role will develop and execute an effective communications program that advances the organization’s mission, demonstrates thought leadership, and engages key constituent groups, including external media and current and prospective donors.
Responsibilities
Deep experience building, managing and mentoring a marketing team, preferably in the nonprofit space.
Deep experience creating a disciplined communications strategy
Knowledge of design, digital and social media platforms, and multimedia campaigns and implementation.
Develop and manage all phases of execution for a marketing and communications plan that advances the importance of civic and history education and affirms the organization’s market and thought leadership positions.
Lead media relations efforts, including aggressive outreach to print, radio, podcast, and television outlets.
Manage a small, high-functioning marketing and communications team to advance organizational priorities.
Craft collateral and disciplined messaging that effectively tells the organization’s story and builds affinity among key groups, including media and donors.
Measure and report on effectiveness of communications strategy using established key performance indicators.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications or related field.
10+ years in marketing and communications leadership experience, preferably within a nonprofit or business environment.
Experience developing strategic messaging and working across an organization to ensure message discipline.
Established contacts in news media, and proven track record of media placements across multiple media formats.
Successful history of working with C-suite executives in crafting talking points, op-eds, and presentation collateral.
Strong project manager with experience collaborating seamlessly across multiple departments or teams.
Must be local to Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
