Standards Manager Location: Westmont, IL or Washington, DC (hybrid role; in office 2-8x/month)
Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
Job Summary:
The Standards Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the ANS Standards Program, playing a central role in its strategic direction and daily operations. Reporting directly to the Director of Publications, the manager leads a full-time Standards Specialist and works collaboratively across departments to ensure the program’s success. This role demands a proactive, self-starting professional with exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication abilities to thrive in a team-oriented environment. A deep understanding of and extensive experience with the consensus standards process is essential, as the position is key to accelerating the growth and impact of the ANS Standards Program.
Job Responsibilities:
Attention to Detail & Execution (50%)
Maintains the ANS accredited procedures “ANS Standards Committee Rules and Procedures” to ensure compliance with ANSI Essential Requirements; and is responsible for adherence to accredited procedures in preparation of standards and record retention, and for ANSI program audits.
Prepares agendas, presentations, and reports for national meetings and to support the standards board, RP3C, and consensus committee leadership.
Coordinates standards-related copy for ANS publications, i.e. Nuclear News, Notes & Deadlines, and Nuclear Newswire.
Manages and/or supports grant-related activities including financial and technical status reporting as needed.
Prepares and/or facilitates updates to the “Policy Manual for the ANS Standards Committee,” “ANS Standards Procedures Manual for Consensus Committees,” training materials, and resource documents as needed.
Facilitates publication of approved ANS standards, prepares documents in accordance with ANS style guides, collaborates with ANS copyeditors and technical experts to incorporate corrections and finalize documents for publication.
Prepares the standards portion of the budget for domestic and international standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Communications & Relationship Building (50%)
Serves as secretary or staff liaison to the Standards Board, consensus committees, Risk-informed, Performance-based Principles and Policy Committee (RP3C), and special committees and task groups, including the Advanced Reactor Codes and Standards Collaborative and the U.S. Nuclear Technical Advisory Group; travels to committee meetings as needed.
Manages the workflow of administrative support to the standards committee, committee meeting coverage, and meeting space needs.
Facilitates responses to public inquiries on ANS standards in accordance with policy.
Interacts daily with members of the Standards Committee via telephone and email to provide guidance on rules, procedures, and policies.
Develops marketing and promotional material with the assistance of ANS Standards Committee leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have prior experience with other SDOs and knowledge of the standards development process, association management, procedures, and policies. The role demands excellent administrative and multi-tasking abilities, superior organization and meticulous attention to detail. Success in this role requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with multiple levels of personnel including staff, volunteers, and leadership. Candidates must be proficient in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and database systems.
