This position is responsible for managing religion and theology subject-focused content creation and implementing marketing plans to promote the Atla brand, vision, and news to internal and external audiences, especially focused on Atla fee and free information products (e.g. subscription databases, open discovery platform). The person in this role is responsible for content strategy development, production, distribution, and quality control of product-focused marketing. Utilizing their knowledge of the theology and religion ecosystem, they create subject and product-focused content and devise outreach strategies to increase awareness of Atla and its products, drive usage, and encourage adoption of resources.
The individual in this role must be an effective communicator, excellent at collaborating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, and able to handle diverse projects and meet tight deadlines.
This role owns the launch of new products into new markets, requiring a self-driven marketer who excels in environments with minimal structure. The ideal candidate is results-oriented, skilled at developing resourceful solutions, and confident in managing projects independently from start to finish.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Strategy & Creation
Research, brainstorm, write, edit, and produce high-quality content on religion and theology topics and Atla products to be published on Atla web properties, social media, and other mediums.
Develop value proposition and subject-focused messaging frameworks that convey benefits to end-users.
Identify, organize, and deploy additional information to enrich content on Atla web properties.
Adapt tone and complexity to audience and style guidelines.
Gather feedback to refine content strategy and quality.
SEO & Web Optimization
Write effective titles and content-focused subject lines to optimize click-thru-rate (CTR).
Optimize product-focused website elements (title tags, meta descriptions, headings, alt text, internal linking).
Track performance metrics related to Atla products (organic search, traffic, engagement, lead generation, ROI) to optimize content strategies.
Monitor and implement new strategies to accommodate developments in AI.
Social Media Engagement
Enhance Atla’s social media presence through subject matter and product-focused content creation and frequent engagement, and continual adjustment.
Gather feedback and adjust strategies based on performance and feedback
Marketing & Promotion
Identify key venues and religion and theology focused events for Atla to advertise, sponsor, or exhibit its products. Develop and implement event engagement plans.
Design advertising strategies and promote, negotiate, and implement advertising on Atla web properties.
Represent Atla and its products at religion and theology focused events and meetings.
Measure impact and adjust strategies to maximize results.
Track and report on relevant performance metrics.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
Collaborate with staff to promote engagement with content on Atla’s web properties and social media and drive usage of Atla products.
With a focus on Atla products, collaborate with team members on content and design of Atla’s web properties, newsletters, original video and photo content, social media presence, and promotions for webinars, exhibits, sponsorships, and events.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience
Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, or two to four years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2-4 years working at a higher education institution, publisher, or other organization in the area of religion and theology, or substantive coursework in religious studies or theology.
Demonstrated history of proactively identifying opportunities and challenges, taking ownership of projects from conception through execution without waiting for explicit directions.
Marketing Skills:
3+ years working in marketing, ideally in content marketing, with proven ability to generate creative content that attracts attention on the web or social media.
Working knowledge of SEO tools.
Experience collaborating with graphic and web designers and having input on design and UX best practices.
Experience supporting new product launches, including the identification of strategies to reach new audiences.
Proficiency in:
Microsoft Office Suite
WordPress or other CMS
Mailchimp or similar email marketing tools
Social media applications and management tools for business use (Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
Basic HTML and email design
Association Management (AMS) or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (SalesForce preferred)
Email marketing software (MailChimp preferred)
Online meeting systems
File sharing software (Microsoft and Google Drive preferred)
Demonstrated writing, editing, and visual communication skills.
Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Preferred Experience
Someone who understands and speaks the language of those involved in theological or religious studies, in academic, professional, public, and personal contexts.
Experience working in a library, cultural heritage organization, membership association, library consortium, or affiliated educational, nonprofit, or professional organization.
Experience in website accessibility best practices and workflow.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Full time remote, work from home position – 37.5 hour work week
US time zones and locations only
Typical working hours are 9am-5pm Central Monday through Friday
POSITION TRAVEL REQUIREMENT
This position will require some travel (<20%) to attend conferences and participate in one or two team meetings and one organization-wide staff gathering each year.
