Position Summary
The Executive Director, ISPOR Institute for Healthcare Transformation (ISPOR Institute) leads the Institute to achieve its vision of a world where HEOR is integral to improving health and healthcare decisions globally. The Executive Director works with the ISPOR CEO and Senior Staff, and the ISPOR Board of Directors with advisement from the Institute Advisory Committee, to achieve high-impact deliverables that complement ISPOR’s other activities and demonstrate ISPOR’s leadership in shaping healthcare policy and HEOR science worldwide. The Executive Director is responsible for the direction and oversight of all strategic, financial, and day-to-day operations for the Institute, including the production and dissemination of key outputs and outreach to funders. The Executive Director will also ensure that the Institute’s activities align with ISPOR’s strategic plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Leadership
Develop, refine, and implement the Institute’s strategic plan in coordination with the ISPOR CEO, ISPOR Senior Leadership, ISPOR Board, and in consideration of the Institute’s Advisory Committee feedback.
Ensure that the budget, staff, and priorities align with the Institute’s and ISPOR’s visions and missions.
Provide inspirational leadership and direction to staff and ensure the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization; establish effective decision-making processes to enable the Institute to achieve its short- and long-term goals and objectives with respect to research, education, and communication, application and impact, and convening/connecting.
Serve as an advocate for health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) in demonstrating the value and role of HEOR in health globally.
Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the ISPOR CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Directors and ensure open communication about measuring financial, fundraising, programming, and performance against stated milestones and goals.
Achieve agreed upon goals with external organizations and partners.
Cultivate positive relationships among ISPOR’s volunteer leaders and lead a collaborative, participatory leadership culture within the membership and staff.
Collaborate creatively and strategically with senior staff to ensure the organization operates with purpose, vitality, and relevance.
Advise, guide, and oversee the organization’s program work.
Finance
Develop the Institute’s annual business plan and budget, along with financial strategies, to ensure the Institute's long-term economic viability.
Lead Institute fundraising activities to ensure long-term financial viability.
Ensure that the Institute operates in accordance with ISPOR’s financial policies and procedures, and risk management best practices
Management
Provide leadership and developmental support to direct reports.
Oversee, develop, and support execution of a strategic communications plan that enhances the Institute’s visibility and its leadership role in advancing HEOR. A key feature of this must be the effective dissemination of Institute research and work products.
Communicate consistently with multiple stakeholders (including members and staff) to enhance the Institute’s visibility and communicate the goals, strategies, and successes.
Represent the Institute in public forums and communications and/or designate other staff who can speak on the Institute’s behalf on specific subjects. Serve as an articulate, persuasive, and effective spokesperson for the Institute as well as its mission, goals, and successes to the broader healthcare community. Adeptly market the Institute.
Protect the Institute's and ISPOR’s reputation and technical credibility by ensuring that products released in the Institute’s name are of the highest technical caliber and enhance the organization's acceptance as a standard-bearer for best practices.
Ensure that Institute operations are compliant with ISPOR’s SOPs, core values, and other guiding documents and standards.
Maintain sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with all outside organizations critical to achieving the Institute’s mission, goals, and objectives.
Provide strategic counsel to the ISPOR CEO.
Attend ISPOR Board of Directors meetings to provide updates on Institute activities and impact.
Serve as a member of the ISPOR Senior Leadership Team.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Advanced degree (i.e., Doctoral or Masters level), preferably in public health, health policy, economics, or a related scientific field is required. Substantive technical skills in HEOR and related research/research methods; communications skills (written, oral); management of people; accountability; results/impact orientation; sense of urgency; integrity; financial acumen; team player; innovative/creative.
15+ years related experience in an executive management role.
Demonstrated track record in obtaining funding for major multi-year scientific and/or policy initiatives, through sponsorships, donations, and/or grants.
An astute leader who can set clear priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems; sophisticated analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making. Strong executive presence and proven ability to influence others.
Deep understanding of global environmental trends and stakeholder positions in health, healthcare, and HEOR.
Outstanding presentation and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to be a spokesperson and relationship/collaboration builder.
Excellent coalition-building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders; a persuasive negotiator who can achieve consensus amongst differing opinions.
An intuitive problem-solver and motivator who can analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions that enhance the organization’s relationships, goals, and initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader with a demonstrated passion for HEOR and adept at coordinating programs with external impact and visibility, and will work with a diverse constituency of international community partners, donors, governments, and grant makers.
Collaborate cross-functionally throughout the organization with various levels, including leadership, members, and peers, across teams and cultures, and at all experience levels.
Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
Highly proficient in MS Office, and ability to learn new technology platforms.
Solid business acumen and creative problem-solving skills
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of ISPOR.

Office-based: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Travel Required: the expectation is 6-12 times yearly, including international travel. Travel to ISPOR meetings and other travel related to the performance of job responsibilities, if requested by ISPOR management, is required.
Position is remote-eligible.

OUR LOCATION
ISPOR’s headquarters is in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, which is halfway between Philadelphia and New York City. Our staff works in a hybrid arrangement: on-site two designated days per week.
