The Director of Continuing Education is the key contributor to the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of an accredited continuing education and continuous professional development program that supports the lifelong learning of AACP members. This position is an integral member of the AACP Education Team, reporting to the Senior Director of Academic Programs and Professional Development, this role collaborates closely with the Senior Director of Education, the meetings and communications teams, and matrixes with cross-functional staff to execute and enhance AACP’s continuing education portfolio and maintain compliance with Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) standards.
This position leads the operational planning and execution of continuing education and continuous professional development (CE/CPD) programs, supports and completes all accreditation reporting, communicates with AACP members, program speakers, and subject matter experts, serves as the staff liaison to the programming committee for the large in-person annual meeting, coordinates all program related logistics and communications, and ensures a high-quality learner experiences across all platforms and events. This position contributes to key educational initiatives and a positive team environment. Overall, this position supports the Senior Directors of the Education Team to deliver educational programs that meet the needs of members, address contemporary education and technology best practices and support the mission, vision, and strategic plan of AACP.
Some travel is required for this position, including 2-day staff retreats up to 3 times/year as well as the mid-July annual meeting (6-7 days in length). Some of this travel may be required on weekends and federal holidays (if required, compensatory time will be provided, per the policy in the employee handbook).
Essential Functions
Program Operations & Accreditation (50%)
Develop and provide oversight of the continuing education and professional development program including a strategic vision in alignment with the educational program plan of AACP.
Maintain policies and procedures, submission, and tracking of ACPE-required reports (interim, self-assessment, and comprehensive review) for CE/CPD program accreditation.
Administer and oversee AACP’s continuing education electronic system, ensuring timely support for members in claiming CE credits and maintaining accurate records.
Coordinate and manage CE logistics for AACP meetings and events, including Institutes, Annual Meeting, Interim Meeting, the Academic Leadership Fellows Program, Mid-Career Recharge, webinars, certificate and microcredential programs on the LMS and any new programs under development.
Communicate with speakers and members about CE related information and support AACP staff and member volunteer committees related to CE/CPD programs.
Ensure efficiency and efficacy of programming to members by working with individuals to be sure all programs and services are implemented with an emphasis on quality and timeliness of topics, needs assessments, gap analysis, and program evaluations.
Review program outcomes and participant feedback to support data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement of the CE/CPD program and be in compliance with ACPE standards.
Support and help lead the Call for Session Proposals process for the Annual and Interim Meetings: launch submission site, coordinate peer reviews, and manage speaker communications and logistics.
Annual Meeting Educational Programming and Logistics (40%)
Serve as the staff liaison of the programming committee in coordination with other staff on the Education team and work with member volunteers and education team members to provide oversight of the educational programming offered at the Annual Meeting.
Work in collaboration with key staff from the meetings and communication team to update the program of events, website, meeting app, and other key communications with speakers and attendees of the meeting.
Additional Responsibilities (10%)
Partner with Senior Directors to plan educational offerings that align with AACP’s strategic priorities and the education program plan, when needed.
Contribute to a collaborative and collegial team culture aligned with AACP’s mission, vision, and values.
Participate in organization-wide initiatives, committees, and special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications for this Position
Bachelor’s degree in education or continuing professional development or similar area of study
Minimum of 3 years’ experience with educational programming
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented behaviors, and be highly organized
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
Proficiency in using educational or event management platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
Be able to manage conflict in an adaptive and agile manner
Preferred Qualifications for this Position
Graduate degree in education or continuing professional development.
5 or more years’ experience with educational programming.
Experience with ACPE-accredited programming or other healthcare continuing education accreditation bodies.
Experience with hybrid and online learning platforms.
