Required Education:

Reporting to the TCMS Executive Board and TCMS Foundation Board of Trustees, the EVP/CEO will assume full authority and accountability for the efficient operation and ongoing success of the organization. The role requires an individual who can manage a range of diverse, complex issues and maintain the highest ethical standards while doing so. A list of representative duties is included below. The EVP/CEO will also be called on to perform other duties as requested by the Boards.
Work with the TCMS Executive Board and TCMS Foundation Board of Trustees providing leadership and support in fulfilling the organization’s mission and developing and implementing its strategic plan and priorities as expressed through bylaws, policies, and resolutions or actions of the Board.
Execute the actions of, provide staff support for, and serve as an advisor to the Society’s Executive Board and Board of Ethics, its Committees, and its Delegation to the TMA House of Delegates, providing data, insight, and options to facilitate informed decision making.
Work with the president and board chairs to develop agendas for board meetings.
Oversee the conduct of the Society’s official business including meetings, conferences, elections, administration, and record keeping.
Serve on the Board of Directors of Medical Service Bureau, Inc.
Establish and maintain an effective organizational structure with clearly defined roles, responsibilities and reporting relationships that ensure accountability.
Work with the CPO in developing and retaining a competent, high-performing, and professional staff; hire, direct, and evaluate staff; oversee matters of recruitment, salary, and compliance with HR
Work with the CFO to ensure the proper formulation and administration of sound fiscal and investment management policies.
Oversee financial performance of the Society and Foundation and proactively seek opportunities to diversify and grow revenue.
Work with the CFO to ensure timely and accurate preparation of budgets, progress reports, and all required filings.
Oversee operations of the headquarters building including shared and tenant leasehold space.
Work with the TCMS Committee on Medical Legislation and the TMA public affairs staff to support the TMA advocacy agenda at both the state and federal levels.
Inspire members to support TCMS advocacy work and encourage member participation in First Tuesdays at the Capitol.
Encourage the identification and cultivation of physician candidates for leadership roles in organized medicine (e.g., through the TMA Leadership College).
Foster positive working relationships with the community, media, and membership.
Maintain close working relationships with the TMA, other county medical societies, specialty societies, and the American Medical Association (AMA).
Work with delegation leadership to sustain the organization’s influential role at the TMA House of
Maintain a staff culture of professionalism and respect for physician members; promote an understanding of members’ challenges in providing patient care and a commitment to assist in meaningful ways.
Ensure that the value of TCMS membership is emphasized and broadly communicated.
Develop and implement innovative proactive strategies to retain and attract members and promote their participation in TCMS.
Professional Qualifications
College degree required. Graduate degree preferred.
Minimum of 10-15 years of management experience at a senior level, preferably within an association, nonprofit, and/or healthcare organization. Graduate degrees may be considered toward experience requirement.
Exposure to working with Boards and committees to build consensus and achieve organizational goals.
An understanding of the medical community and how legislation impacts the quality of patient care.
Strong business, financial, and staff management
Experience developing relationships and fostering collaboration across
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
Must be able to handle difficult situations and deal with sensitive and highly confidential information.
Strong computer skills.

Established in 1853, TCMS is the professional organization for physicians in Travis County. It is third in active membership among the five major metropolitan county medical societies in Texas with more than 3,200 active dues-paying members. As a component society of the Texas Medical Association (TMA). TCMS employs 6 individuals and has total revenues in the $1M range. TCMS benefits from sharing back-office services (Accounting, IT, HR, facilities, and risk management) with its affiliated organizations founded by the Society.
Throughout its long history, TCMS has worked to improve health care and medical standards in Travis County. In support of that work over the last 75 years, it founded the regional blood and tissue center, a for-profit company that operated a medical call center, a foundation that previously operated graduate medical education and access to health care programs and currently provides medical student scholarship and operates physician wellness programs. Looking ahead, the new EVP/CEO will collaborate with the TCMS and TCMS Foundation boards during their strategic planning process and thus will help shape the work of both organizations.

TCMS is... a 501(c)(6) professional membership organization representing more than 4,500 physicians and medical students including residents, fellows, and retired physicians in Travis County, TX. Its mission is to serve and represent a diverse and inclusive medical profession in matters of importance to the membership and to the community and patients it serves.
