The International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) represents the $400+ billion industry that supplies food and related products to over one million professional kitchens daily. From your favorite neighborhood restaurant to schools and hospitals, hotels and convenience stores, our members are a critical part of the supply chain across the country and around the globe. We advocate for the industry on Capitol Hill, host inspiring educational conferences and recognition programs, and develop industry-leading research.
We’re looking for an experienced, strategic, results-oriented leader to serve as Director of Membership. This key position will be responsible for developing and executing member recruitment and retention strategies across digital and traditional channels, driving member engagement, overseeing the association’s membership management system and related technologies, and achieving the association’s strategic goals. You will play a pivotal role in growing the organization’s market share within the industry, while helping our members engage within the IFDA community to gain maximum value from their membership.
Essential Responsibilities: Director, Membership
Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain Distributor Members and meet annual revenue goals.
Develop and implement strategies and tactics that enhance value to members, increase member participation and engagement, and ensure overall positive member satisfaction and customer experience.
Develop the annual Membership Dues Budget.
Oversight of annual renewal dues billing process for Distributor and Allied Members.
Oversight of the annual contract management for the organization’s AMS and related SaaS components.
Ensure proper processes and procedures are followed in the upkeep of the organization’s AMS.
Identifies opportunities?to expand the?reach?of?IFDA’s value proposition with existing Distributor members and prospective members.
Cultivates and maximizes relationships with IFDA’s Buying Group Members, and maintains a pipeline of prospective members through the buying groups.
Secures commitments from new and returning Distributor Member companies to ensure appropriate ratio to Manufacturer Partners in the annual Partners Executive Forum.
Manage annual Member Visits Schedule (in-person and virtual), and meet annual goal of member visits.
Manage internal and external stakeholder collaboration and relationships:
Represent IFDA at industry events, and prepare and deliver public speeches and presentations.
Respond to inquiries about IFDA member resources, benefits, and opportunities.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to maximize member engagement across all of the organization’s programs, events, and activities.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to measure member needs and satisfaction; ensure regular collection and analysis of satisfaction data, and ensure the data is utilized to continuously improve the IFDA value proposition and customer experience.
Supports member engagement in IFDA’s key annual conferences: Partners Executive Forum, SMart, Solutions Conference, and The National Championship.
Provides periodic membership status reports to the executive leadership team as needed for Board meetings and other occasions.
Serve as an internal and external resource on membership issues/questions; create a feedback loop by sharing member input with the IFDA staff.
Maintain a working understanding of IFDA’s AMS, oversee Manager and information Systems activities including mailing list and report generation, data entry, online registration setup, AMS troubleshooting, updating IFDA Guidelines for iMIS, and coordinating iMIS training for staff.
Oversight of Distributor member listings on IFDA website to ensure it reflects current membership.
All other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position manages one full-time employee, Manager, Information Systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
To perform this job exceptionally, the individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities noted below and minimally meet the education, training, and/or work experience required:
Enjoys people and personal interaction and is skilled at developing, nurturing and maintaining deep relationships with corporate executives and highly successful independent business leaders.
A self-starter and able to function independently day-to-day.
A leader both inside and outside of the Association.
Open to new ideas with a strong desire to continuously improve.
Strong oral, written, listening and presentation skills.
Bachelor’s degree required.
7+ years with a trade association in a membership/sales role is preferable; Foodservice distribution experience is a plus.
Knowledge of the iMIS database is a plus; and,
General knowledge of Microsoft Office
Location and Travel:
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule consisting of three days in the office (M-W-F) and two remote (T – TH). Minimal overnight travel (up to 20%) by land and/or air.
