Founded over 30 years ago, the Florida Association of Health Plans (FAHP) is seeking a qualified candidate to assume the role of President/CEO. As the statewide trade association for the health insurance industry, our core mission is to promote and advocate for enhancing access to high quality, affordable health care for all Floridians.
The President/CEO reports to the Board of Directors and serves as the chief staff executive of the Association. President/CEO is responsible for the fiscal, operational, legislative, regulatory and human resource functions of the association. This role emphasizes structured oversight and collaborative leadership with the Board of Directors. In these capacities, the President/CEO recommends and participates in the development of all the Association’s plans and programs.
A successful candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of Florida’s health insurance market, Medicaid managed care, and the broader health care industry, combined with expertise in legislative and regulatory policymaking. Proven experience in cultivating productive relationships with individuals and organizations that share our goals is essential.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Develop policies and procedures that create a workable framework for governance and operation of the Association for the approval of the Board of Directors.
Develop and implement strategic initiatives that advance the Association’s mission and strategic priorities.
Responsible for coordinating and providing leadership on government relations as endorsed by the Board of Directors.
Build and maintain strong, cooperative relationships among health plans.
Build and maintain positive relationships between Association members and stakeholders, including consumers, providers, regulators, elected officials and their staff, and other health care organizations.
Serve as a spokesperson and public representative for the association.
Participate in the development and delivery of educational programs and resources to inform policymakers, the public, and Association members about the benefits and services provided by health plans.
Ensure sound management, fiscal accountability, and quality performance in the implementation of all Association endeavors.
Manage the annual conference to meet the goals and objectives of the Association.
Provide oversight of Association contracts.
Participate in the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
Staff
The President/CEO is responsible for the supervision, hiring, performance management, effectiveness, and evaluation of the Association staff. The President/CEO serves as the main point of contact between the staff and the Association leadership. The President/CEO is responsible for compliance with adopted personnel policies and procedures.
Work Direction
The President/CEO works independent of direct supervision but reports to the Board of Directors and its elected leadership.
Qualifications:
Minimum of ten years’ experience working in policy development and management, experience with health insurance, managed care organizations, government and/or nonprofit organization management preferred.
Proven executive leadership experience in the health care, insurance, or related industry.
Demonstrated expertise in advocacy, public policy, and stakeholder engagement.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building consensus among diverse groups.
Expertise in government relations and legislative advocacy with the Florida Legislature, the Executive Office of the Governor, and state agencies responsible for health policies and programs.
Strong strategic planning, financial acumen, and operational management capabilities.
Advanced degree in Business, Health Administration, Public Policy, Law, or a related field is preferred.
Applicants must be located in Tallahassee, FL, or be willing to relocate to Tallahassee, FL, as a condition of employment.
