Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, Public Affairs, the Manager, Dental Practice implements strategies to advance the practice of dentistry, including development/review of policies and guidelines, assistance on practice management programming, and representation before outside entities on practice standards, reimbursement, and logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, analyze, comment and/or provide assistance to volunteers and staff on health policies, guidelines, and other documents of the AGD and of other healthcare groups and organizations.
Represent and provide staff support to volunteers in their representation of general dentistry at meetings of outside entities related to practice standards, reimbursement, and logistics, such as the meetings of the ADA Code Maintenance Committee, the ADA Dental Quality Alliance, ADA Standards, the American Association of Dental Consultants, the National Association of Dental Plans, and the Association for Dental Safety. This also includes the recruiting and vetting of prospective volunteers to other entities, such as the ADA Council on Dental Education and Licensure’s Anesthesiology Committee, the Dental Assisting National Board, and others as requested.
Assist members with management of their practices (including, benefits reimbursement, patient consent/termination, HIPAA/OSHA compliance, hygiene productivity, PPACA issues, etc.), by assisting in the development of practice management programming. May include some provision of assistance to individual members on practice management matters when requested.
Serve as staff liaison to the Dental Practice Council, its subcommittees, and other task forces upon request, with development of materials, scheduling, and logistical coordination for in-person and electronic/telephonic meetings.
Regularly submit to Communications articles recapping Dental Practice activities for publication in AGD Impact and other channels as appropriate.
Develop programming suggestions for AGD’s annual Advocacy Conference and manage the full scope of activities relating to securing speakers, developing presentations, etc. Also provide support to additional advocacy efforts, such as the preparation of internal and external communications and the biennial Leadership Development Symposium.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree, especially in health policy or related field, helpful. Previous association experience, especially dental association, highly desirable.
Five (5) years of association experience as managerial staff with increasing responsibility required. Knowledge of and experience in dental practice and dental insurance matters very beneficial. Minimum of seven (7) years of comparable association experience acceptable in lieu of legal or policy background. Experience as dental office manager, dental assistant or dental hygienist acceptable in lieu of any aforementioned requirements.
Be able to communicate effectively and tactfully with AGD members, leaders, officers and staff and present a positive image of AGD through these communications. Strong research skills, written and verbal proficiency, and leadership skills required. Be proficient in common office applications (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook). Be able and willing to learn new software and programs as required. Possess familiarity with Internet and Web based applications. Be flexible, adaptable, and able to work on a wide variety of tasks independently and in a team structure and understand and apply meaning of confidentiality. Meet deadlines, set priorities, work independently, and demonstrate a high degree of attention to detail. Use good organizational skills, excellent customer service skills, excellent oral and written communications skills with good spelling, proofreading and grammatical skills, and excellent internet research skills. Be able to work additional hours and travel as needed.
