The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the world’s largest aerospace technical society, seeks a Manager, University Programs to be responsible for managing university programs that help students engage and build relationships with AIAA.
Reporting to the Director, AIAA Foundation, you will be responsible for collaborating with volunteer groups, student members, academic departments, and industry professionals to deliver value-driven programs that support AIAA’s mission. With direction from the Director, Foundation, and guidance provided by volunteer leaders, you will execute university programming, provide assessment and insight into best practices for university student programs and member engagement.
AIAA has a flexible hybrid work policy that allows most employees to work remotely from their home in the D.C. metro area three days a week, and work in the AIAA Reston, VA office two days a week. Candidates must reside in the Washington, DC metro area.
RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:
Program Management: In coordination with volunteer groups, plan, implement, and manage university-based programs such as Paper Design Competitions, Design/Build/Fly, Scholarship/Graduate Awards, Rising Stars in Aerospace, and student branch programming through AIAA events and branch orientations.
Volunteer Management: Serve as primary point of contact for the following volunteer communities: Committee on Higher Education and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and Design/Build/Fly (DBF) Organizing Committee. May include coordinating meeting arrangements, presenting information, gathering feedback and helping to identify new programs and services to align programs with member needs and institutional priorities.
Membership Engagement: Serve as a liaison between the association and student branch university members, ensuring they have access to AIAA resources, educational opportunities, and program-related support. Coordinate student branch visits attending events when appropriate. Monitor online student communities.
Program Evaluation, Reporting, and Data Entry: Monitor and assess the effectiveness of programs through feedback surveys, participation rates, and outcome metrics. Prepare reports to share with stakeholders and recommend improvements. Oversee the student branch annual reports. Maintain student branch officer rosters, data entry, and other administrative duties. Coordinate the process for chartering (or de-chartering) student branches.
Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage budgets for programs and events, ensuring they stay within allocated financial limits. Identify opportunities for cost-effective solutions.
Marketing and Outreach: Work with marketing and communications to promote programs and student branch activities, including social media, emails, press releases, and articles.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least three years of experience in program management, higher education administration, or professional association management.
Familiarity with higher education systems and university structures.
Excellent organizational, project management, and multitasking skills.
Familiarity with association management software.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
Experience with awards management software (Open Water preferred).
Travel at least 6 times per year.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated ability to manage and lead individuals and programs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrate public speaking abilities and facilitate virtual or in-person meetings and events.
Excellent customer service skills.
Attention to detail and ability to identify problems and to take appropriate action within AIAA guidelines with minimal direction.
Excellent team player with proven ability to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including members, staff, program participants and other supporters.
An energetic self-starter who can quickly adapt and thrive in a multitasked environment
