Position Overview: The Education and Conventions Director is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, planning, execution, and evaluation of the trade association’s conventions, conferences, and educational programs for independent insurance agents. This dual-role position will manage the association’s annual convention and other key events, plus the delivery of high-quality professional development programs. Those programs include seminars, live webinars, online learning, credentialing and continuing education. The Director will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that programs and events align with the needs of members and industry trends, fostering professional development and enhancing member engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Education Area:
Oversee the planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of educational programs, including live classes, live webinars, on-demand webinars and online learning materials.
Host numerous live webinars per month, acting as the face of the organization to thousands of students per year.
Identify, recruit and manage qualified instructors and speakers.
Monitor industry trends and emerging topics to ensure educational offerings remain relevant, timely and aligned with the professional development needs of insurance agents.
Manage the learning management system (LMS) and live webinar platforms used to deliver educational content, ensuring ease of access and engagement for members.
Conventions Area:
In concert with the Convention Chair and Convention Committee, develop and manage the overall strategy and logistics for the annual convention and trade show – including site selection, contract negotiations, budget management, program development, speaker recruitment, sponsor solicitation, and on-site execution.
Oversee all aspects of convention planning, including registration, housing, transportation, food and beverage, entertainment, exhibitor services and staff coordination.
Develop and implement marketing and promotion plans to maximize attendance and engagement.
Evaluate convention success and identify areas for improvement.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage budgets for two annual conventions and all educational programs.
Track expenses and ensure cost-effectiveness.
Identify and secure sponsorships and other revenue sources.
Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with industry experts, speakers, vendors, sponsors, and association members.
Manage and staff two committees of member volunteers, the Convention Committee and the Education Committee.
Collaborate with other association staff to ensure effective communication, coordination, promotions, member engagement and implementation of strategic goals.
Other Duties:
Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in adult education and event management.
Gather feedback from members and stakeholders to continuously improve educational offerings and conventions.
Represent the association at industry events and conferences.
Perform other duties as assigned. 10%-20% of this position may be projects outside Education and Conventions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, risk management, education or nonprofit management desired. Equivalent experience in one or more of these fields will also suffice.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in event planning, education program delivery, or association management.
Relevant professional credentials are a plus, especially CEM, CMP, CMM, CAE, IOM, CIC, CRM, ARM, CISR, AINS, CPLP, CLDP, APTD, CTPD, CTP
Experience in the insurance industry is a plus.
Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design is a plus.
Excellent project management, organizational, and time-management skills. A “detail person” is needed for this position.
Strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with an LMS, AMS, CRM or other customer management platform.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to travel within Wisconsin about once per month, with some overnight stays.
