Position: Editor (Contract-to-Hire, Part-Time)
ACES: The Society for Editing is seeking a mid-level editor to support our growing association of 5,000 members. This is a contract-to-hire, part-time position, initially for 60 days, with an expected hourly commitment of 10-20 hours per week at a pay rate of $40-$45 per hour.
Role Overview
The Editor will be responsible for ensuring consistency, clarity, and accuracy in all organization-wide communications and content. This role supports ACES’ mission by upholding brand and style standards across all ACES platforms.
Additionally, the Editor will serve as the Editor of ACES’ quarterly publication, Tracking Changes. In this capacity, they will collaborate with the Communications and Marketing Manager and the Communications and Publications Committee to 1) oversee the publication’s relaunch, including design, platform, and editorial content, and 2) source articles, manage the editorial process and calendar, and oversee the publication’s ongoing development.
Key Responsibilities
Edit all organization content, including emails, newsletters, social media posts, conference materials, website copy, and advertising.
Copy edits and proofread materials for spelling, punctuation, grammar, formatting, and clarity in accordance with the ACES Style Guide.
Identify and communicate content edits and queries clearly and concisely.
Manage the editorial process for Tracking Changes, including design, article generation and selection, coordination with contributors and proofreaders, and final content review.
Collaborate with writers, designers, and team members to produce high quality targeted content.
Maintain and update the ACES Style Guide to ensure consistency across all communications, in coordination with the Communications and Marketing Manager.
Position Requirements
Superior editing skills, demonstrated through past experience and the ability to pass an ACES editing test.
Strong command of AP style and familiarity with other professional style guides.
Ability to edit for language (grammar, spelling, consistency) and design (formatting, spacing, color, line breaks) within ACES’ style guidelines.
Strong time management skills; ability to work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy.
Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently.
Experience with digital content management and publishing platforms.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Comfortable working in a remote environment.
