The Illinois Association of School Business Officials (Illinois ASBO) seeks a highly motivated and versatile copywriting and content professional to join our high-performing team. This role is based in our DeKalb office. However, an option for hybrid (two days per week) work is available.
This is a dynamic role for an association professional who possesses superior writing, editing, communications and organizational skills. This individual will play a key role in advancing Illinois ASBO’s publications, communications, and marketing initiatives while ensuring exceptional internal and external customer service.
The Content Strategist will be a hands-on contributor, responsible for developing and executing high-quality content that drives member engagement and promotes our programs, products, and services. This includes crafting compelling social media posts, email campaigns, and other communication assets that align with the association’s mission and goals.
Communication Responsibilities:
Assist in editing and developing content for the Association’s publications, coordinate proof process and communicate with authors.
Assist in creating and maintaining an editorial calendar while coordinating communications across departments.
Create emails and other Association communications from existing design templates.
Conduct research and analyze marketing campaigns and website content for effectiveness.
Assist in the creation of personas and lists for target marketing.
Collaborate with members and the marketing team to develop program testimonials and article content.
Coordinate and manage the Advocacy and Leadership Center Blogs.
Marketing Responsibilities:
Support strategic marketing objectives through development of project management plans to include the creation of promotional messages, content and strategies for brochures, email, web, social media and other channels as identified.
Ability to work in a cross-functional environment to successfully execute projects from concept to completion – delivering results that are on strategy, on time and meet pre-defined goals.
Develop and implement promotional campaigns by identifying target personas, crafting audience-specific messaging, and ensuring alignment with Illinois ASBO’s brand standards.
Maintain strong time and project management skills to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks with strict attention to detail and minimal supervision.

Qualifications for this role
Strong copywriting, editing, proofreading and communication skills, with recent hands-on copywriting experience.
Ability to write in a variety of voices and diverse personas.
Skilled at developing customer-centric messages and content.
Willingness to learn new marketing, communications, and online community software. Experience with Higher Logic platforms is preferred.
Ability to develop promotional plans, support marketing strategies and solve complex problems creatively.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage tight deadlines, competing priorities, and time-sensitive demands.
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; capable of leading or contributing to work teams to advance projects.
Experience:
A minimum of one year of copywriting experience, preferably in the association or non profit industries.
A college degree.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, with a high degree of working experience with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience with Zoom, Higher Logic Marketing software (Informz email software, Thrive communities etc.) database management, website management, calendar programs are a plus.
Additional Information:
This position will provide one week of onsite support at the Association’s Annual Conference each April or May. Other travel in Illinois will be required throughout the year and is reimbursed by the Association.
